Everyone, I am new to the forum.
I purchased a 2013 RAM 2500 Laramie in 2013. The truck worked great, with no problems for over 2 years. I take the vehicle in for so recall updates in December 2015 (first time any recall work is done), and immediately I have had a number of problems that continue to exist.
Cruise Control wouldn’t work.
Auto start wouldn’t work.
While driving truck would shift from automatic to manual 4th gear.
While shifting truck would jump into reverse.
Letters on dash (P,R,N,D) turned yellow and at low speeds, have to give a lot of RPM’s to move.
Dash lights wouldn’t go off, on all night, Truck battery completely died – towed to dealership.
Service electronic throttle control error appeared, trucked died while driving 50 mph, power steering. went out, coasted to side of road. Truck wouldn’t start, wouldn’t turnover. –towed to dealership twice.
Voltage gauge arm going back and forth sporadically.

Most of these problems have happened numerous times.

During this time I had two instrument clusters replaced, and most recently an alternator replaced. I no longer want this vehicle, as I can’t trust and it isn’t safe to drive. I have just opened a case with Chrysler customer care.

Does anyone have any advice on vehicle replacements or buy backs, and dealing with Chrysler? Also, has anyone had similar problems with their Ram?

Thanks

You are "new" to the forum?? You joined Jan 2014. My advise is to take truck to a different dealer and ask that they contact RAM to provide a manufacturer rep to review the issue. Something does not add up with your story.

I can't say for certain, but I would bet you would have a hard time getting them to buy it back. Seeing as it's 3 years old already. If you don't want it anymore than trade it in.

lemon laws vary state to state. without knowing where your from nobody would be able to tell you if you even qualify given the age of the truck. if your fed up with it and dont want it anymore, trading it in might be your best option at this point in time.

you are way past the lemon law. bring it back to the dealer, sounds like they screwed it up.

You could Start a case with Chrysler if you are still having issues with it. get copies of all the work that has been performed. If you are outside of the lemon laws for your state you may be able to have them extend your warranty. A call to the local attorney generals office would be a good place to start.

Seems like problems started with your recall and updates. Could be a coincidence, but a 3 yr old truck is likely past lemon law.

Good luck!

Make sure the harness plugs to the TIPM are connected fully. Maybe take them apart and use some contact cleaner on them. It sounds like loose connections and with the plethora of symptoms, all of which go through the TIPM, that's where I'd start.

Nice, longtime member, first time posting. Yeah, you are way past lemon law.

If you have any powertrain warranty left, get them to fix that stuff and go from there.

My parents had a new 06 Cummins truck that went in for warranty work, and came out a basket case. They brought it to a different dealer after 6 visits to the dealership they bought it from, and the whole problem was a ground wire that never got reconnected.

Go to a different dealer and see if they will look it over. Sometimes dealership mechanics are one step above a fry cook.

It's possible that during one of the recalls for the steering wheel/airbag harness that they pinched a harness wire, which would explain some of those symptoms. A new steering wheel harness might take care of it.
They may need to review the other recall work that was done for similar issues.

UPDATE: I opened up a case with Chrysler's third party arbitrator NCDS in September, my hearing case was in early November. During this entire period my truck was out of service because the dealership/Chrysler couldnt figure out the problem on the truck or the right part to order. I recently received the arbitration decision and I WON! I get a replacement vehicle. What this means, is that i am credited the MSRP value of the truck when i purchased it in 2013, approximately 50k towards the purchase of a new 2017 RAM 2500. Anything above this I pay out of pocket.

I am pretty happy with this decision. I had been dealing with issue after issue for almost a year. I have nothing against RAM trucks, and will be happy to get another one!
