I just bought a 2013 ram 4x4 3500 dually. while towing a horse trailer on the interstate at 70 mph it tried to shift into 4x4 numerous times. took it to dealer in Georgia and he said couldn't find anything, that I probably accidentally put it in 4x4, and that will be $140 bucks, total rip off. anyone have this problem, I suspect tipm problem but don't wanna spend the cash if that's not it.
thanks for any help

thats odd you cant "accidentally" put it in 4x4 even with the shift on the fly you have to put the truck in neutral (assuming you have an automatic) change the knob over to 4hi then put it in drive now if the dealer says that you can do all that accidentally than i dont even want what they are smoking that sounds like a whole new level of stupid

Only need to be in neutral to go from 4hi to 4lo. I'd start by looking at the shift knob, and wiring connections down to the actuator on the case.

Mine is a 2012 1500, with the 44-44 case, but yes, just turn the knob to 4hi, and let off the gas just a bit, and it will shift. Actually, even the 1999 ram that I had, with the lever on the floor, could be shifted into and out of 4hi while driving.

You cant over 55mph

If its electronic I think it does not allow a 4x4 shift above 55mph. I think you can drag it over 70 once you are in 4x4.

Found it!

2H To 4H
Shifting between 2H and 4H can be made with the
vehicle stopped or in motion. If the vehicle is in motion,
shifts can be made up to 55 mph (88 km/h). With the
vehicle in motion, the transfer case will engage/
disengage faster if you momentarily release the accelerator
pedal after completing the shift. Apply a constant
force when shifting the transfer case lever.

If I remember correctly, the wording in the manual is something to the effect of...... You can shift into or out of 4hi at any legal speed. Or something like that.
As far as it being dangerous, that comes from having a part time 4x4 system. Every time you turn, the driveline will bind and cause a wheel to loose traction. Off road, in low traction conditions, this is not a problem. On dry pavement though, this can be a problem. It can cause handling issues as well as driveline failure.

Can be bad, it will destroy the center transfer case in a big hurry. As well it will hinder cornering which can lead to an accident as the truck will want to track straight.
