Is this a good truck? Any problems I should be aware of?

As title states, it's a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7, and only 27,600 miles.
Has the 6-speed auto (65RFE, I believe?)

2WD, 3.21 gears (It's fine, I don't tow), and quad cab, black paint and black wheels :happy107:

I'm trading in a 2013 F150 Ecobomb 4WD XLT with 104k miles.

I just bought the F150, and after reading horror stories online about the ecoboost I've decided it's a bad idea to keep it. The dealer is giving me a great price on the Ram and an even better deal on the trade, so even thought I've only owned this truck for a month I'm not losing any money!

Just looking for anything negative about these trucks. I've heard the transmissions are prone to problems, which isn't a huge deal to me as long as it's not common. As silly as it is to say "I don't think it will happen to me", I don't think the trans will mess up on me because I don't tow anything lol. I also am going to have the fluid flushed and changed in 3k miles if I buy it at 30k miles just to be safe, and do it every 30k thereafter. $180 flush is cheap insurance on problems transmissions IMO, so it doesn't bother me.

Anyways, it's a tradesman. Please fill me in on the positives and negatives =P thanks guys!

Those transmission stories are so much second generation past tense.

The truck you are looking at is a good truck. The 3.21 rear will be great for mileage out there on the highway.

Good luck with your decision.

How much is the truck? I just traded in a 4wd loaded big horn. I personally would only get the 8 speed. I drove a 6 speed and it didn't impress me like the 8 speed did. That's the main reason I switched from chevy in 2014.

Price is $20,689. That's why I'm buying it hehe. Seems great for. 27k mile truck, considering I just paid $20,900 for my 104k mile ecoboost.

Same here on the 8 speed. I traded in my my new 2013 Ram 1500 CC 4x4 5.7/6spd after 3000 miles for a new 2013 CC 4x4 v6/8 spd just for the difference in mpg, which I suspect would be more on your 2wd. The 6spd is fine, but the 8spd is just better across the board and worth trying to get IMO.

I personally would stay the hell away from the 65rfe and 3.21 combo. It sucks enough already with the 3.55's I have. I would look for an 8 speed truck.

If you're not towing a lot or drag racing the 6 speed 3.55 is more than enough and mine doesn't have a sucky AWD version of 4WD lock

OP next time just buy a warranty that lasts as long as you plan to keep the truck and then you won't feel u need to trade in because of a maybe.

i wouldnt trade a truck because a maybe. i know a few guys who have the same year of ecoboost as the one you have.bought them new and both have over 100000 trouble free miles on them. that being said, the ram you are looking at should be fine. i believe you have the remainder of the 5 year 100000 mile warranty. the six speed trans is very durable and known for longevity. as for 3:21 gearing, wont be the quickest from a standing start, but for everyday driving it will be fine.

If you want the warm fuzzy feeling, should have bought new with a warranty. Regardless, you are going to take a bath on trading in your truck so soon and a double hit for it being used with relative high mileage. 100K is a big psychological barrier and the trading dealer is just going to treat it as a auction truck and give you very little for it.

That being said, the prudent thing would be to keep what you got and just worry about maintaining it and not worry about what you read because you can find crap stories for any make and engine combo out there.

If you're going to trade it- make sure you're not out anything then go for it. That out of warranty eco could be reliable for years or could blow up in your face tomorrow and cost a fortune. From what I have heard they are a crap shoot. No real warning signs, just BOOM. That said I have only heard of or read about a handful of catastrophic failures- but I have no first hand experience. At least the Ram will have warranty still. Do you know how the eco was treated for the 100k before you bought it?

^ Some trucks still had 6 speeds into 2014.

I have a 14 Black Express with 6 speed 3.55 with 36K and can tell you even with the 3.21 in the one you are looking at the horsepower moves that truck along smartly. Is the 8 speed an improvement, certainly, but for your use you'd be very happy.

I have a 2014 I bought new with the Hemi 6sp 3:21 gear set up. It worked perfectly well as delivered, I've changed mine up a little but it was a good combo to start with. From everything I have learned about the 6 speed the only thing they don't like is full throttle down shifts, thats what kills them, they are very durable using full throttle up shifts.

I purchased mine 2 years ago, almost 50,000 on her, and so far no issues. 6 speed with 3:2:1 gears. You can probably get slightly better gas mileage with 8 speed, but the price seems awesome

You paid how much? My wife's x has a 11 ecoboost f150 that his dad bought him new. It has to be at 100k or better, and sounds like a diesel. Why would you have ever went this route? Let's just say we had to follow him one weekend and I was waiting on the on ramp and I had to hold back, not to out run him, or let him know we were following him. He has a very heavy right foot.

I ended up doing the deal. They gave me $1,100 more than I paid for my truck lol. Also, since they paid me more on trade than I paid for the truck, I don't have to pay sales taxes again. All I have to do is pay the $101 title fee, and $25 to transfer my new plates that were on the way for the f150 (they just came in the mail, new and hadn't even installed yet lol)

So I ended up gaining $974 on this deal. Plus I put $2300 down, so with the new deal I'm only paying $335/month compared to the $401 I was paying for the f150. First couple of deals that I didn't get wrecked by a dealer. I'm happy and love the truck. It's an express, not tradesman. Has Bluetooth and touch screen. It ended up having 3.55 gears, not 3.21. 6spd still, 5.7 hemi, and 2wd (only thing I wish was different, but oh well I've never had a 4wd vehicle until I bought that f150, and only had it a few weeks). Also has the blackout package. 20" black wheels etc.
