Is anyone towing with this? Can you give some feedback or review i.e. how do you like it. Any information would be much appreciated.

Well Ive only had mine a few days . Same as what you have . I've only towed my 6x10' cargo trailer so far . It's full of tools & ladders on top . It probably weighs 2800 lbs . I know that's nothing for that truck . I didn't even know it was behind me . It didn't even down shift . Will be pulling my camper next weekend can't wait to feel the difference. Big upgrade from my 4.7

I have the same truck, but with 3.73s and it does a great job pulling my 6k tt. I know it's back there, but that would be the case regardless of tow vehicle, unless i was pulling it with a semi truck. Lol

Overall, i love the truck so far

I hitched my 20' camper to the truck so I could adjust the hitch. Took it out for a test ride & it pulls like nothing there . Granted its flat land but Iam supper happy with it .

I too would like to hear what folks say. I've only towed with my Cummins trucks, and would like a real world comparison. I am just not wanting to jump back into the world of modern diesel emissions.

I just traded my 6.4 for a 1500 5.7. But last summer we towed a 7,000 pound 5th wheel from Wisconsin to St Louis.....did very well, but all flat ground. Got a tad over 11 mpg. Bought a 9000 pound camper and did local towing....big difference in feel and mpg. All was good, but I knew it was there and got 8-9 mpg. I don't think it was the weight as much as the height....the new camper is 15 inches taller than the old one, so there is a lot more wind resistance....

Why did you trade to a smaller engine? MPG?

He went to a completely different class truck. Maybe he doesn't need to tow anymore? 6.4 is a 3/4ton " yes there is a 5.7 available in the 3/4 ton"
He said he went to 1500 5.7 wich is a half ton- Not busting ur balls by any means- he will chime back in shortly

I had a 3.73 geared 2014 6.4L 2500 and regularly towed a 9K fifth wheel with no problems.

I've since moved up to a diesel as the 2014 was totaled and I'm gonna get a bit bigger trailer. I wouldn't do that if I was still running the 6.4L unit.

Same truck and same type/weight trailer. It gets the job done. The 6.4 is a great engine. The transmission could certainly shift better and have better ratios but I do okay.

The main problem I have (and others who have shared here) is the gap between 1st and 2nd gears is too far. The ratios in the tranny were borrowed from the tranny that is paired with a diesel and aren't ideal for gas. This mostly shows up when you're climbing a steep/winding hill and want to shift out of 1st but can't hold 2nd.

I usually just slow down and ride out 1st at about 30mph. This doesn't come up all that often. Also, your 4.10 gears should do a bit better. The other tranny annoyance is its tendency to hold 4th too long and then slam down into 2nd rather than catching 3rd when it should. This can be completely eliminated by just manually shifting which is what I always do. The 1-2 gap is by far the biggest problem. Of course @ 11,000# I realize I'm at the upper limits of the truck and don't expect it to be perfect. As a daily driver it's as close to perfect as you can get.

Same load, two completely different trucks. The trailer weighs in around 7K loaded, and the quads and quad deck come in a little over 2K. I tow this load down I5 and over the coast range to the Oregon dunes a couple times a year. The second gen had a 12 valve Cummins that wasn't stock, 3:54 gears and a 5 speed. The 4th gen has the 6.4 and 4:10 gears. Both trucks make easy work of this load, but both trucks do it differently. I manually shift the trans in the 6.4 on hills, and it doesn't bother me to let it run up to redline in tow haul mode. With this load, on the roads I haul it on, I've never had to drop below third gear to maintain speed, and I've always been able to maintain at least the posted speed limit. The MPG with the 6.4 hasn't been great, the Cummins usually averaged 11-12MPG with this load, the 6.4 has gotten 8-10MPG, 10 isn't bad, but 8 hurts. I'm happy with my choice for a motor in my 4th gen.

I tow a 30foot travel trailer, loaded up probably around 7500lbs.
I was coming from a 03 cummins with the 6 speed and was really worried I would be disappointed with the 6.4.
Just got back from a 1500 mile camping trip in some pretty good hills. I am very pleased with how it towed.
90% of the time it was in 5th cruising 65-70mph around 2400rpm. would downshift to 4th up hills up to around 3000, I think 2 times it hit 3rd at 3500rpm.
The tow haul works great, not busy shifting up and down allot.
It's no diesel but I am happy I pulled the trigger.
Now if I was towing 10000 lbs.+ in the mountains allot,I would probably go Diesel.
