This has already been discussed but I couldn't find anything on new trucks. I have a 2017 ram 1500 with the 32 gallon fuel tank rather then the standard 26. I have only filled it up twice but the first time I was able to squeeze in 25 gallons the second time I ran it until the computer said I had 10 miles left and I was only able to put in 26.5 gallons of fuel. I would have expected at least 30g. If there is in fact 5.5g of unusable fuel then they designed it horrible. Is there a fix for this or is it possible that I didn't get the correct tank and how can you tell?

You have the 32 gallon obviously as you realized you added 26 gal. You do actually have a few gallons left even when it is down to zero. I wouldn't say it's "unusable" as you can run it dry but I'd bet you could get 30 to 50 miles more if you pushed it.
I wouldn't over think it. if you had the 26 gal you would be stopping at 20 gal or so.

That didn't load correctly but this is what I'm talking about. Does anyone know if they have come up with a fix yet?

I was just in for an oil change, they scanned my 2013 1500 with a 32-gallon fuel tank and only the PCM had an update available (throttle response and shift logic (8 speed)).

Since this issue has been around since 2013 or when they started offering the 32-gallon tank and just realized the issue it in 2016, I wouldn't expect a rush to fix.

They changed the tank size but never recalibrated the sensors to the 32 gal tank. There's threads all over the forum about it. I run 60 miles or so past empty all the time with my 32 gal tank.

Don't worry jaypilot, I think the same thing every time I fill up. I'm sure they'll have a fix for us someday!! :)

if you had the 26 gal you would be stopping at 20 gal or so.

On my 2014 Sport I had the 26 gallon tank and more than once put 24 gallon into it when it was less than 10 miles to go to empty. On my 2016 Rebel, I have the 32 gallon tank and experience the same thing as the OP...lots and lots of threads out there talking about this with the 32 gallon tank.

Must be a common issue as I remember watching a guy in a 5.0 Ford E150 do a test on his miles after it said 0 miles til empty. He went about 30 miles or more I remember. I honestly thought the manufacturer was doing this to dummy proof people running dry.
Thanks for the input of seeing it another way. To be honest I'm not sure I'd care to have that updated as I don't like to run that empty anyways. It's not like that original 6 gals left over never gets used
But again thanks for the insight

There is supposed to be a flash update coming to remedy this "issue". Not sure when.

the 32 gallon tank has been around longer than "since 2013".

I had this issue on my '11. Dealership actually replaced the tank under warranty. No change. I feel that is completely unreasonable to think the gauge cannot read full/empty correctly. My 2 cents.

If you feel so strongly about it maybe you should file a lemon law complaint.

My durango has a 25~ gallon tank, light comes on at about 21 gallons, what's the error for to much or to little?

A lemon law complaint...really? Just posting how I feel about it. A person buys the larger tank (spends money for the option) for a reason, to drive further on a tank of fuel. Gauge not being able to accurately read the level is quite irritating. Thanks for sharing your positive, encouraging feedback to the topic ExpressRules, you've helped me and hopefully the others reading this topic to find an alternative means to correct this common and unfortunate issue.

Sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings. If you search and read many of the other 32 gal tank threads you will see it comes up many, many times here so no harm meant.

I have the same issue. Crawl under the truck and look at the tank, mine says 32 gal right there on the rear part of the tank.
