I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Now mind you, this truck has 978 miles on it...yes 978. My wife took it to work this morning and as she heading down the road the truck fully accelerated and she says the brakes would not stop the truck. She instantly shut it off. She let it sit for a min and started the truck and tried it again with no avail, she almost hit a school bus. Her brand new truck is now being towed to the dealership. I am beyond frustrated as this is now a safety issue instead of an inconvenience. I called dodge and they said "well it's under warranty ". Not sure what answer I was expecting but it wasn't that. I will wait til the dealer can find the problem and go from there.

I have never heard of this happening before to a Ram. When she tried restarting the truck what happened?

Anything could have lodged in there or got stuck. I dont want to be that guy who sounds cold because it is a very dangerous situation as Ive had a car that did the same, a light bulb I was changing forgot the old bulb on the motor it found its way to the throttle body and stuck it wide open.

Regardless this is a rare thing and likely caused by something mechanical getting stuck. Good news its a fluke, bad news is your wife had to go through this. I cant imagine a 400hp going Kamikaze as I know the brakes had a workout to stop that pig. Smart girl shutting it down, not many people would do that! Good job on her part.

It will get fixed, and back on the road.

I just returned from meeting the tow truck at the dealership. He said he tried to drive the truck up on the flatbed. He said it after putting into drive it lurched forward at a very high rpm. I tried it myself, it is fine in reverse but once it is in "D" it's game over. Sounds like it's full power. In fact the truck was sitting in a stone lot at the dealer and it did a nice power brake with no accelerator applied. There is something definitely wrong. I am contemplating a call to NHTSB.

Well if anything it's a good thing that it continues to have the problem, will make it easier hopefully for the dealership to figure it out. Make sure you let us know what they find out once the dealership looks at it. Never seen anyone post a problem like this before on any of the forums.

I'm just curious to know how she shut the engine off. My Rebel has the pushbutton start, and I'm not able to shut it off when it's not in park. I hear a "ding" and get a message on the EVIC saying to put the truck in park the one time I tried.

She put in neutral and pulled off of the road. The engine only revs in drive.

Hold the Start button down for a few seconds,it should shut off.Us guys who drag race the trucks and hit limp mode once inawhile, have discovered you need to hold the button down for 5 seconds or more to get the truck to shut off while in gear.

You need to call NHTSA about the issue and start an investigation, they will put a fire in Chrysler's butt and look into it. That's a true safety issue that could've injured someone.

The dealership just called. They are replacing the electronic portion of the accelerator pedal?? Basically she told me that the computers confused on what position the accelerator pedal should be in and that is why it did what it did. She said they could see where the truckload accelerated on its own when they hooked it up to the computer. I did call the NHTSB. They were not a while lot of help which I really didn't expect them to be. They will have to compare all notes taken on all rams and see if there is a problem. Chrysler has yet to call me back. I absolutley love my truck and I am hoping this is the last time either one of us has to experience this.

How is the truck now that they replaced the pedal sensor?

I'm glad you posted this. It is great information for those of us that have a newer model 4th Gen. As has been said, Congrat's to your wife for her quick thinking and her ability to neutralize what could have been a deadly situation. I hope the proposed fix takes care of the problem.

Glad no one was injured, if not for the cool head quick thinking of you're wife this could have been terrible. This is what I hate about technology, when it works it's great but when it don't it can have dire consequences. Just hope this is a one off problem and not something all of us have to worry about. Thanks for sharing, will keep this in the back of my mind should I happen to experience the same thing.

Hope they get it sorted out quickly. Kudos to your wife, who acted quickly and intelligently. She saved a lot of lives, including hers. These are great trucks......you will be enjoying yours soon.

Hopefully the replacement electronics will fix your problem. I have actually worried about this sort of situation happening to me with drive-by-wire throttle systems. Although, even throttle cables have the slight possibility of jamming. Fortunately, problems seem very rare.

What the NHTSB told you they are going to do is pretty much what their purpose is. They track complaint data to figure out if there is a pattern of faulty equipment.
