2018 Ram Limited Tungsten Edition Announced | News | Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

The Tungsten Edition will be an option in the third quarter of this year on Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 crew-cab and megacab models. Unfortunately, the 2018 Ram Limited Tungsten Edition is just the name of a trim level that will sit atop the already upper-crusty Limited but offers none of that rare, denser-than-lead material that boasts the highest melting point of all metals. Ram Tungsten models are more like Fords that are labeled Platinum—it’s just a way to tell the world the owner dropped more than a few extra nickels on the purchase

The Tungsten is distinguished from the more plebeian Ram Limited by a segment-first suede headliner, exclusive white-and-indigo leather not unlike that in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, real wood trim, and body-color exterior components. Standard features on the Limited such as air suspension, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and Uconnect infotainment with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, stick around for the show at the upper level. The Tungsten’s chrome grille and badging will distinguish owners from those who couldn’t afford the upgrade.

Ram offers the 1500 Tungsten Edition for $56,515, which is a mere $2245 over the 2017 price for the Limited model. Checking off atomic number 74 on the option sheet can be expected to inflate the price of a fully loaded Ram 3500 to somewhere in the $85,000 range

Not by any means I have seen or researched. They lock it to the high end VIN number only. I have googled to see if anyone has swapped for a head unit that already has it and No luck.
If I could throw Android Auto up there I wouldn't have to pay Sirius for Traffic.

Android auto isn't out yet. At least not for the 2017s. I just went through the buying process last week.

I'm assuming it will be able to be added to older trucks, not vin locked.

Dang you beat me to making this post, honestly I like the exterior but I feel the interior is inferior to the laramie longhorn but i guess the whole idea is to attract a different audience that just us cowboys. my first guess on someone who would own this truck would where a full suit and tie.

It is out on some 8.4 units just not under the Ram umbrella.

Android Auto and CarPlay will be on all 2018 RAMs with the 8.4, not just this one. It requires hardware changes, so the only way we'll see it in older trucks if if the radio is swapped in. How well that will work remains to be seen.

The article I read is that this truck is supposed to compare to the Ford Platinum. It won;t compare unless it comes factory with AMP powersteps.

I like it a lot. But I'm fine with my 2014 Big Horn I just got.

This is a swap I'm hoping will work. If I'm still forced to drive myself (c'mon Level 4 autonomous capability!), I want Google Maps over every other OEM solution out there.

Meh. Rather just get the Laramie with black leather and save money.

Pretty sweet but I am thinking the timing is off for most who will hold out for the new gen not long after. I guess people always buy the end of life generation too just can't personally imagine spending that much on a 1500.

You can usually get these 20-25% off without haggling. So still probably looking at 45k for something that rivals luxury brands. Not bad IMO.

Yep, that's what I did. I couldn't see paying for the Longhorn or the Limited when the differences are all cosmetic. Certainly not springing for a Tungsten. I'm happy with my Laramie.
