So lest say I'm cruising down the highway at 80mph/100 kmph and the roads are clear and dry.All of a sudden it starts to snow and eventually roads are covered and getting slippery in 2wd.

My question,Is it safe to switch into 4wd auto at that speed?

You can technically shift in to 4wd high at speeds of 100kph or less but the slower the better and be sure your not spinning or on the fuel

In those road conditions, nothing is safe at those speeds....slow down and put it in auto 4wd if ya want.

LOL good point thx!

No kidding , your going down the road at 80mph and it starts to snow. You want to know if it's safe to hit auto 4wd. Slow down and put it in 4 auto. No offense to you but that looks like a question a 20 year old would ask, not someone your age.

In theory, as long as there is no slippage between the front & rear drivelines, you can put it in auto 4wd at any speed

Thanks for that!

If I could go back and rephrase my question I would!

Really I guess that is what I wanted to know. What is a safe speed to switch it.

My math good needs better!

You can go from 2WD to 4Auto or 4WD or any combination of these 3 at any speed as long front and rears are going the same speed.

Can do it with anything with a central axle disconnect, or the manual hubs are in. Lot of people still believe 4wd is only a slow speed thing.

in the nineties, it was 50mph or less to shift into 4wd while driving.
