Thought I would check and see if anyone could point me in the right direction on this.

2012 5.7 65K miles. Yesterday - AC ice cold. This morning not blowing cold. Fan blows air, just not cold. Vents switch to all settings without issue. Heat works fine.

Where do I start? Thanks.

Same here - is it blowing warm, hot, when you change where the air blows does it go to that location or is one of them not blowing? (i.e.) I change my air flow to floor, but it only blows on defrost, but it blows in every other mode fine.

Does it come on with HVAC system? When your air is completely OFF it will be on, but when your air is ON, it should be spinning always.

I cant see past the clutch fan. I'm assuming it's the electric fan - but I can't tell if it's spinning or not.

Check and see if the compressor is engaging when a/c is on. If not, check fuses and then check the refrigerant line pressures.

My 2014 did this the other day. Was blowing ice cold. Stopped to run into the store. Then it was blowing cool, but not cold. Did this for about 10 minutes. I ate lunch and when I started it back up again, it was cold again. Fan was working fine. I kept trying different setting on the thermostat, recirc, defrost, floor vents, etc. Nothing made a difference. It fixed itself and hasn't done it again since Saturday. I hope it doesn't happen again. I HATE having to take it into the dealer so they can take 1-2 days to look at it.

Good luck

One line was cool and the other was 'hot', so compressor was engaged,, at least at that time,,,.

Been a run of leaky evap cores lately,,,

Hope not,,,, =( $$$$$$$

It could be the blend door isn't fully turning to the cool side of the HVAC system. If the refrigerant lines were cold and the compressor was engaged, it should be blowing cold air.

One question, did you have it on fresh air or recirculate? My 03 Mustangs evaporator would ice up in minutes if you had it on fresh air on a hot and humid day. It would blow pretty warm air until I turned it off long enough for it to thaw out. It was crazy annoying so I could only use max ac. Haven't had that problem on my truck at all though.

Until you get a set of AC gauges on it to check the low and high side pressures, you are stabbing at it.

Contrary to the myth that AC systems are "sealed" even the best ones will loose on average and ounce of refrigerant per year and need the occasional top off service.

There's a thermistor in the evaporator that senses the temp and turns off the compressor to keep the evap from freezing up. The failure mode is open, which keeps the evap from icing up and burning out the compressor.

It's a $20-$40 part and is buried under the dash. Replacing it will take about 4-6 hours if you do it yourself or about $600-$700 if someone else does it.

This signature is AWESOME!!!

thx to all. Magna that's a hot piece of information right there. I had a shop near me tell me the evaporator was bad. Which I thought was a stretch on a 3 year old truck with only 62K miles. I'm going to take back to the dealer and mentioned this thermistor. F'ng Chrysler. :)

It's not just Chrysler. My wife had a Mercury Milan that did the same thing. Ford quoted me $650 and I bought the part on Amazon, followed a YouTube video from a Ford tech and saved myself $630.

The part may be called any of a few different things...air temp sensor, Evan temp sensor, cabin air sensor, but they're all the same thing.

This is my signature. There are many like it but this one is mine.
