Hey guys, basically im 25 and wanted to buy a used ram 1500 as a daily driver, I dont travel very far to work everyday. I was looking at Ram 1500 from 06-11 (I like the 4th better then 3rd but either is fine) with about 100k miles for around 10k. If I can find a clean one and have it checked out is it a good buy? I just want something that is very reliable to get me to and from work without having to be in the shop every week like my old car. Any advice would be great thanks!

"Reliable" is subjective when buying used. Many RAM's can go 200K+ miles if taken care of. Without the history of the vehicle you are buying, it is a crap shoot regardless and keep that in mind when buying.

Whichever you go with just have it checked out prior to purchase.

Good luck!

I really don't think you'll find a 4th generation in the $10k range.

you can, but it will be a single cab 2wd, maybe a hemi but i doubt it, low end of options. since he didn't specify on what he really wants, he might be able to get into one. all he listed was a 4th gen with 100k miles and around 10k dollars. if he gets into 4 door, 4wd, hemi. then yes not gonna find one.
so to the OP, what do you want as far as options, dont be so vague.

My advise, car history report.

Drive a 4 gen and drive a 3rd gen, then you will pay whatever the asking price on a 4 gen. Coil back suspension may be one of the best upgrades ever, assuming you wont be putting 2k pounds in the bed too often. Ram wins truck of the year like 3 outta 4 years soon as they make that. Try and find one with 3.92 gears if you can, you will want that with that 6 speed. I have 3.55's, I just drive in tow haul all the time. Realistically, you may need to step up to 12-15k for a decent one.

if you want reliable and only have 10K, i think you would be better off looking at cars. they will be newer and with less mileage.

I bought mine for $14k and change. It's a 2012 1500 Express crew 4x4 and had just under 75k miles when I bought it in April. I purchased it from the company I work for so I know the vehicles history and know when and where it was serviced for its entire life prior to me purchasing it. I work in the oilfield and this was a salesmans truck so it never saw much abuse or anything. We had a big layoff and this truck as well as a few of our other fleet trucks were just sitting and costing the company money each month so I inquired about buying this one to get it off of their tab. I paid a little more than they owed on it but they basically had the dealership check it out and give them an appraisal on it and that's what I paid. I think the dealership shot low in my favor but hey I'm not complaining.

If you're dead set on wanting a truck, the deals are out there you just have to be patient and be willing to do a lot of hunting for those deals. I had been in the market for a new truck for a couple of months when I got lucky and stumbled on my deal.

For 10k I agree be tough to find 4th gen. You might get a higher mileage one at that. Nothing wrong with 200k if it was serviced regularly. I'd also agree on getting it checked out by a shop prior
