Traded in my truck at 50,274.1 miles and cancelled the life time warranty that I originally paid $3,500 for. The dealer reimbursed me $1,470.25. After receiving the paper work of the reimbursement and going home. I noticed a Dealer chargeback of $713.02
Does that even make since? I don't see how the dealer had any investment in my $3,500. I was also charged a cancellation fee of $75.00 and I understand that do to processing/filing fee.
I called and spoke to a lady at ram care. And she had no advice or opinion.
What do you guys and gals think of this? Thank you in advance. Justin

The Dealer does make some markup on the contract. I guess I don't see anything wrong with that.
I know we are moving closer to full socialism. I don't get all the stealership ********, are they not allowed to make money?
Start your own shop and work on **** for free.

I think the term more or less refers to the SHADY tactics they use to take the money. If i was told, this costs 2900 dollars, but we do put a markup on it so it comes out to 3200 bucks, i'd still buy it. albeit, i'd haggle, but still buy. Instead, they include it in fine print, then hold on when you sell.

No one complains that the dealers make money, they complain HOW they make money. Even on cars, I really don't care what the dealer pays for a car, I only car what i'm willing to pay. To say they are stealing from you because you didn't' haggle, is your fault.

That said, they are super sketchy with the way APR's are handed out, and various other contractual jargon. At the end of the day, people would like them more if they were just a bit less scummy, and more " this is how it is ".

Why do you think the dealership sells you a lifetime warranty in the first place? To do you a favor? If you don't like what they gave you back, take them to small claims, a judge might agree.

I had bought the extended warranty on a previous vehicle I purchased. It was a extra 5 yr warranty plus so many KM's(not sure exactly how many). When I was selling the vehicle I went back to the dealer and because I never used the warranty I received it all back except for a small servicing fee. Which I believe was under $200.
I think your getting scammed. I'd look further into this.
Good luck

I appreciate everyone's opinion! It probably is in the fine detail. I'll go and ask tomorrow. Just wanted some opinions. And maybe some advice first.
I agree The dealer does need to make money. I'm a cut and dry kinda guy. Be honest be real and let's make a deal. Why everything has to be a secret I don't understand.

According to the nice fella I spoke with at Zeiglers there is a prorated refund up to the 7 year mark. After that you're "all in".

The charge back maybe was done by the fact that Chrsler sold the dealership the warranty service for a fixed amount, the dealership sold it to you for less, they lost money if you used it, if you didn't, either way the dealer lost money; and that's their charge from getting your refund.

That's interesting but not surprising. I paid 2300 for my Lifetime MaxCare about 3 years ago. When I first read the post and saw 1400 I was pretty excited but it makes more sense @ 700 or so.

I totally agree that the dealers need to make money but also totally agree that they are super shady about how they do it. I really like how they act all butt hurt when you don't trust them. And the salesman are not even the worst. They are just the front guys. It's the managers and finance guys that would really kick their mothers in knee for a few hundred dollars.

I suppose it's just the business and to survive you have to play the game. It's just not a game I'd ever want any part of on an everyday basis. When I set foot on the lot it's 100% me against them.

I think you should be pretty happy no? You purchased something with the intention for it to last a lifetime, then you changed your mind, and they gave you a large portion back. I'd say thats pretty damn good business if you ask me. Why did you buy it if you weren't going to keep the car long enough for it to last ? And if you weren't planning on upgrading, why would you expect a refund anyways? I wish I could return the car at 50k miles and get a depreciated refund :)

IMHO&E Read the fine print on the original sale contract where you included the Lifetime, as well as any fine print contained on the Lifetime Document itself. Compare those against what the dealer had you sign, and go from there. Hopefully you haven't missed something.

And that's 7 yrs from the purchase date of the truck (they call it in service date), NOT the purchase date of the warranty.

yes..and that prorated refund is a whopping 25 bucks !
(7 yrs or 100,000 miles)

I got a lifetime warrenty quote from them also, on a 14 caravan...Approx $2100.00...Talked to the douchbag finance guy at the dealer I purchased the van at...His quote for the exact same policy was around $ 3900.00...When I showed him a copy of Zieglers quote for waaaaaaay less he said he might be able to match it...I told him NO THANKS...Then proceeded to throw him under the bus with his G.M.

The General Manager wouldn't be mad at the finance guy. The only time he would get mad would be if the finance guy didn't try to sell you the warranty at full retail.

Think of it as the same thing of a buyer asking the salesman what the price of a vehicle is and he points at the MSRP on the sticker. If the customer is dumb enough to pay that that's on them.

YEP....I'm well aware of that...It's like the law enforcement fraternity....LIE...LIE...LIE to cover you or your buds ****...The G.M. didn't know what to say when I told him all this paperwork was being forwarded to the STATE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY...I never wasted my time doing it, knowing full well nothing would come of it...Stealerships bring in too much sales tax revenue for state and local governments...

You're using a pretty broad brush when you make statements like that. It maybe the way business is done where you worked, but it sure hasn't been my experience in 40 years in LE. Maybe this needs to be on another thread but IMHO your statement is not only ******** it's offensive!!!!!!

Lots of uninformed comments here....

OP - you are reading too much into this. It is completely normal and is just part of how the dealership negotiates pricing with the manufacturer. Everything you get from a dealer, whether it be a vehicle, a warranty, or an accessory, is first purchased in some fashion from the manufacturer. Often times it comes with incentives from the manufacturer for the dealer as well.

This isn't a scam or anything shady. I work for a dealership group at the corporate level. I see all of this stuff on a regular basis and know the details behind it. Yes, there are some shady dealers out there, but this is pretty standard practice.
