My truck is 6 months old and I am hearing a "clunk" noise when I turn the steering wheel. I don't think it is in the front end SO could it be in the U-Joint(s) in the steering column? Have any of you had this happen to you?

That thing is brand new, off to the dealer, why even worry especially if it is easily able to duplicate for the service writer.

The worst is if it only happens intermittently and you can not reproduce.......

If it's a mild pop or clunk felt through the steering wheel then it's probably the intermediate steering shaft.

I remember someone posting about a popping or clunk and it ended up being there steering column and it wasn't a 1 off I have read several threads with the same thing.

Andrea ... I could most certainly use some help here. It has been over 2.5 weeks and the dealership tech cannot fix the issue. They hear it and know there is a problem but this issue has completely STUMPED them.
Thanks,
Drew Brown

My truck does the same thing but the dealership says they can't reproduce the issue. Guess I'll be taking it back and ask them to check the steering column.

I have 2010 2500 that does the same thing. I've been told that it's the intermediate column. Where it slides in and out there is a plastic bushing that breaks and that is where the clunking noise comes from. Mine has done this for a couple of years just haven't taken the time to fix it yet.

tallrockent ... I believe that is what it is too. I've mentioned that it's in the steering column linkage but they say they cant find it. Makes sense though. I am still waiting for it to get fixed.

I have the same problem. They couldn't replicate the problem and made me take a tech for a drive. 30 seconds into the drive I had it clicking and clunking. He said it was the steering column. It's at the dealership right now for broken manifold bolts and the clunking noise.

Same issue here. Not the tie rods I replaced all of them today.
Several other videos on you tube about the issue. Here is a link to my truck popping from steering shaft. Let's us know what dealer replaces to solve? I even tried soaking the shaft with lube no luck.

Sorry but thats not my sound. Mine is coming from the outside of my truck. Most likely by the steering linkage, along the drivetrain of the front wheels. It clunks by the drivers wheel. Ram Service tech said it was most definitely my steering column making the noise.

This is the part I believe is causing the issue. It's called he intermediate shaft (upper and lower) you can see it right below the master cylinder. Two parts not sure which on is causing the issue.

Let's us know what is replaced on your truck?
Yes I sure will. I'm having problems with the dealership it's at right now. I made an appointment to drop the truck off to get the broken manifold bolts fixed and the clunking fixed. My appointment was Monday 7/31. It's now 8/6 and they havnt even touched my truck. They said it won't be done until NEXT Thursday or Friday. Which is totally unacceptable. The mechanic "assigned" to my truck is "backed up" rebuilding an engine and has other cars to do before mine. I don't understand why another mechanic hasn't been put on my truck.

I just contacted Ram Cares to see what they can do. My warranty only covers 5 days of rental. If my truck is done Thursday I will owe $370+ for the rental and if it's done Friday I'll owe $415+.

I'm so mad right now.

On sale, that is crazy. I would be contacting Chrysler Corp, and ramcares again. They gave you a ******** answer on why your truck is being held up.

I might have had the same problem. Turning all the way left or right and rolling I'd hear a "click click" sound. It was something with the calipers they said. I think they adjusted them some and put new grease on the back of the pads and it fixed it. I noticed it most after my level kit. Then they did that and it helped for a while. When I got my new wheels and tires abd aligbment, it completely fixed it.
