I have a '16 Ram Longhorn that I bought new a few months back and now have 5700 miles on it. It has had a constant vibration in seat, floor, and body since I got it.
Been back to dealer 3 times and ruled out tire/wheel probs.
Had the front drive shaft replaced yesterday, but still shakes - vibrates at
60+ mph.
Any ideas where I should go from here? Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks in advance !

60 MPH only?

does the vibration change with engine RPM or rolling speed? If its is engine RPM is it only under load or can it be felt when rolling at speed but in neutral... or sitting in neutral with the RPMs up.?

Hi passthruhunter,

I reached out to our corporate tech specialists, who advised usually with the vibration issue it is tires, but if the dealership has ruled that out, they should get a frequency reading to determine the root cause. The dealer can reach out to the techs. If you'd like me to assist as well, please PM your VIN.

Did your issue get resolved? I have a 2013 Ram 1500 4X4 5.7 no lift, new general tires road force balanced 3 times, still have a vibration. I do notice it more going up a hill than flat, but the seat shakes and you can feel it through your bottom. The faster you go the worse it is.

I have the exact same issue with my 2017 RAM 1500. Tires have been ruled out. It doesn't happen consistently and the dealership has had no luck finding it.

Do they "pull out" the frequency tester for all types of vibrations?

I had hoped that would be the result in the case of my 2000 RPM vibration, but two dealers said it was normal and never once tried any of the available frequency detection tools.

Seriously,

If there is a safe way to see if the vibration disappears at speed but the engine in neutral that would be a good test.

Is the truck 4x4 or 2x4?

If 4x4 Does it do it in 4x4 at speed?

Drivshaft out of balance?

There was an engine mount recall on some HD’s. It caused vibrations. That could be something to look at.

I think part of the issue is that some RPM range always corresponds with some speed (of course :) ). So while a vibration could occur at 60mph, is it because of 60mph or is it because of whatever RPM it happens to be running when the truck is at 60 mph. Check the running RPM at 60 mph, then lock the truck in a lower gear and see if it vibrates at the same RPM range but a different speed.

Speed-sensitive vibrations could be a wheel balance thing (apparently already ruled out), driveshaft balance thing, etc. But usually those types of vibrations would be pretty violent....OP doesnt say if its a "OMG the truck is shaking and its going to fall apart" vibration or a "something is buzzing around my floor" vibration.

Without a lift Id be nervous to try and re-create it with the wheels off the ground, but if its RPM-related, it would be a little bit safer (i.e. you dont need to get the wheels up to 60mph to feel it).

Its something Im considering doing to troubleshoot the vibration in my own truck (jackstands, 4x4 under the front wheels in case the backs hit the ground somehow, etc)

I would be SUPER nervous to try running through the gear up to 60MPH while it is on jack stands. There is a LOT LOT LOT of rotating mass in the wheels that can cause some unpredictable movement when they are off the ground.

Hi Nashman15,

If you decide to get the vibration inspected by the dealer, let me know. We'd be glad to escalate your inquiry to a Case Specialist who'll work with you and the dealer toward a solution.
