I'm about to purchase a 2014 Ram Sport, and since it's used they are offering an extended warranty. it came from Canada, so it lost it's manufacture warranty anyways.

Does anyone have experience with shop costs on these trucks?

Or am I better off skipping the warranty. The one they are offering is pretty inclusive and it's $2,200 for about 48k miles.

It's aftermarket because it's a used car lot, not a Dodge dealer.

We got a life time bumper to bumper (minus wear items) forna lil over 2k on our 2013 Dodge journey through the dealership and my wife drives alot for work we have 100k miles now on it and man that warranty has been awesome....now that forever drive train warranty is total bs.

Ya I literally live 90 seconds from my work and another minute from my gym. My daily commute, with going home for lunch is less than 5 miles lol

I drive the most during winter when I'm out in farm fields scouting for geese.

I don't like the idea of "financing" the warranty and I'm not sure how much I would need it with these trucks. I mean, it drops my payment $50/mo going without it.

I say no, especially third party. I dont even do dealer ones. In my experience they will always find something to not cover it or make you jump through so many hoops it isn't worth it.

That's my exact fear. Granted they are "discounting" it from about $4k to $2200 for it. But still, I'm leaning towards it not being worth it.

I thought dealerships were supposed to offer a 30 day warranty or something like that?? Any major stuff they are trying to cover would generally come out during that time.

Possibly? Maybe it's different since this is a used car lot anyways. A big one, but still not a brand dealership.

Aftermarket warranties are crap. Buy at a dodge dealer and buy an mopar warranty. 1,000% worth it. I'm a tech. Repairs are incredibly pricy once the warranties expire.

Are you able to get a Mopar warranty after you purchase from another dealer?

You may be able to do that. I think we sell extended mopar warranties at our shop and people finance them. Might be something to look in to

Cool! I'll call my local dealership and see what they say.

Extended warranties sell a costly ‘peace of mind’ for repair nightmares that probably won’t occur. Complete waist of money.

One of those endless debates. From my perspective, its like going to a casino. Odds are stacked heavily in favor of the casino or they wouldn't be in business. Same with extended or aftermarket warranties.
Sure you might have an incident now and then where you would have won, but over your lifetime you will come out way ahead by saying no thank you.

The magic word here is Canadian truck back in the US. No warranty either bumper to bumper nor powertrain.

The upside of buying the truck is they, at least last year, were being sold cheaper than hell. My 14 sport with under 13,000 miles was way under US trucks so I purchased it from a local Chevy dealer. I purchased a third party warranty through the dealer that has sold them for a number of years with, they claim, with good success. I bought the best they offered. The dealer also gave me 6 mo/6000 miles of warranty also.

My warranty is through Fidelity out of Florida. I called them prior to buying the warranty, had a long talk with the rep and came away happy.

We'll see if I have problems but I had no plans of driving this complicated a machine without some coverage.

The good news is I could probably replace the engine and trans for the discount I got on the truck.

Call the warranty folks and see if you are comfortable with them.

Bottom line - If you can't save several thousand over the cost of a US truck with the Canadian truck plus warranty cost, I'd walk away even not knowing the mileage on the Ram.

Truck is a
14 Sport
55k miles
Fully loaded with everything but power folding mirrors since it has tow mirrors

So I got them down to $30,498 plus they will buy and install 1A Auto Power Folding Tow Mirrors and then warranty is $2,200 for 48k miles of full coverage.

So I'd be out the door at $32,700+tax

Truck is in phenomenal shape though and everything I want

CC w/6'4" bed

Just haven't done it yet cause I was getting insurance quotes, etc. but in next day or so I will

Warranty is last decision

Canadian truck is big reason I've considered the extra warranty but I really don't want to finance it
