I,ve read all the post and the owners manual. Seems it's who you ask and where in the manual ?

So; I have a 2015 Ram 2500, diesel, MegaCab, four-wheel drive.

This question is:

Front Axle - I use 75W 85 synthetic axle lube (GL-5). Right?

Rear Axle - Do I use (A) 75W-85 synthetic axle lube (GL-5).

Same as above or do I use (B) 75W-140 (MS 8985) that required the addition of 5 oz. of limited slip additive (MS -10111)

:) All the SYNTHETiC DIFFERENTIAL fluids already have the LS additive--

I use VALVOLINE 75w-140 which is the superior/Heavy Duty/racing fluid for front/rear 4wds--

I've been using it for over 16 years for my stock diff's and diff's /w YUKON gears changes-

Good for open diff's/locked diff's and LS diff's and ref'd in the O.M. !

Good luck

Thanks much. Good to know. I pull a 12,000 # 5th wheel about 75% of the time.

Sound like any where between 75W 90 and 75w 140 will work fine as long as its synthetic.

um that is not correct about all synthetics having limited slip additive. However the American axle in your HD Ram does not require additive

:) YUP, that's right and the 75w-140 is the synthetic designed for HD

So, if you're gonna change, I'd suggest VALVOLINE 75w-140 syn/w LS additive--

The Chrysler O/M. for different trucks/jeeps recommends it for HD/off road TOWING --

Good luck

:) Possible, but I don't know of any of the syn 75w-140 fluids that DON'T HAVE THE LS ADDITIVE-

MAYBE YOU DO ??

Oh yeah, I have LS in my rear 3.92 axle so I need the additive in my 75w-140 , so I'm good to go--don'tcha think ??

None of the Mopar or Motorcraft synthetic gear lubes have the additive.

:) OK, I was talking of aftermkt, Valvoline/Mobile One/Royal Purple-so

I guess if you're gonna use OEM fluids--you'll have to also buy OEM additive-except that FORD recommends using their MOTORCRAFT 75w-140 for diffs./w limited slip

The top of the line synthetics in 75w-140 are the best fluids you can use in a truck differential and won't affect powertrain warranty-

Good luck

From your 2015 ram manual: Front and rear axles for 2500/3500's require synthetic GL-5 75W-90 with NO limited slip additive. If you're not concerned about your powertrain warranty, then I guess use whatever you want, or whatever everyone else on here is telling you

this is correct. 75w-140 and limited slip additive is for 1500 rear axles only, not 2500's/3500's. if you use a fluid that has the additive in it it won't hurt anything, theres just no need for it.

Terminology issue:

Just to be clear. According to by data I have a 3.42 "ANTI-SPIN " differential.

This is the same as "limited Slip". Right?

:) You sure it's not 3.92 ??

Anyway--yes it's limited slip--needs the additive, whether already in the fluid, or in addition to--

Good luck

Yes you need the additive, Different names for basically the same thing.
The reason the HD Rams with the American Axle and anti spin do not need additive, is because they do not use clutch packs like the 1/2 ton Rams and most limited slip, anti spin or whatever you want to call it differentials do.

so you say HD rams do not need the additive, yet the OP has an HD ram and your saying he needs the additive. makes no sense.

You guys keep saying he needs the additive, yet also acknowledge that the HD rams don't need the additive. The OP HAS a 2500 HD ram, as indicated in the first post!! Sooo... NO additive. Yes, you guys are correct on using the additive...IF he had a 1500 ram

From page 321, 2015 Ram Diesel Supplement.

Front and rear axles, 2500 and 3500.

"We recommend you use SAE 75W-85HD Ram GL-5 Synthetic axle lube. Limited slip additive is not required for limited slip rear axles".
