Headed to my ol' man's house for new years and got involved in a rear-end collision an hour before midnight. Granted, the accident could have been worse and everyone walked away from it but still......I'm not too happy about it.

I won't go into details since I'm still having conversations with professionals who specialize in these matters but I will just say that everyone please be careful out there. Put the friggin phones down and pay attention to what the heck you are doing and for heaven's sake, if you throw back a few, get a damn Uber.

The pictures below tell most of the story but like I said, I can't share the specifics of the narrative just yet. As to the damage, the body shop says that it will cost around $5-6k to fix her up. The trailer hitch took most of the damage but the impact was so severe that the bed dented the cab and my driver's seat reclined a little bit. All my papers that I had in my sunvisor wound up in the back seat including everything that was in my center console. Scary!

I added the Air Ride airbags and the air lines were cut but surprisingly, the tailgate lightbar still works. My Dee Zee tailgate assist is probably toast as well as my tonneau cover. As finicky as our 8-speed trannys are, I'm wondering if I will have problems later on with it since I was at highway speeds when I got hit.

I won't make a GMC vs. Ram joke. Honestly, I'm just glad to be alive.

The drunks were out there for sure. I got one at a .090 and a .130 before 2100. People don't care these days at all. Glad everyone is alright though! IF he was impaired....I hope you got a cash collar!

Sorry to hear your troubles.

These aren't fashionable, but I have had one on my truck since day 1. Might have helped in your situation to take some of the impact away, I have a tow ball on mine, that is how I tow my landscape trailer.

It always sucks to take care of your stuff for no one else to care or have any regard for you or your truck. Glad you are ok, metal can be fixed

That was a hard hit. Glad you're OK. Trucks can be replaced people can't. Hoping it all works out for you.

Thanks for all the well wishes fellas. Yeah, it's just metal that can be fixed. Both of us walked away so that's the important part.

The body shop guy said that they have equipment to fix frames nowadays so they are not as quick to total vehicles in many cases. According to him, trucks are easier to fix since the frame is partially exposed and they will remove the bed to make it easier. The fella who hit me however - I'm betting his truck is totaled. I counted at least 3 different fluids spilling on the ground while the cop was taking our statements.

I will keep you guys posted as best I can.

OP, glad everyone is ok. Incidents like this are one of the reasons I got rid of my Charger SRT8 and into a 2500. I cringe to think how badly things may have turned out if you were driving a smaller vehicle.

I think you should make the GMC joke. Not only is he at fault, but his truck couldn't drive to the body shop I'd bet.

They replace the frames allot any more. It's hard to get one totaled out. Friend mine had the frame replaced on his 08 silverado.
