My 2016 Bighorn Ram with the dual temp. control will blow cold air at random times. If I set the temp. control to 70 degrees (with outside temp around 30) when engine temp gets up it will blow warm air for 15-30 minutes and it gets nice and comfortable in truck then randomly it will blow cold air for a few minutes, then warm air again. It will repeat several times on a 1 or 2 hour drive. It seems to me that it thinks it is too warm so that it needs to blow cold for a while then go back to heat. I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet. Anyone else have similar problems??
Thanks

Maybe you have it on auto climate? Mine will do that keep to control the temp I want in the cab.

Yes, I have it on "Auto Climate". We have a Ford Escape with dual temp control similar to my Ram's and it doesn't blow cold air.

It might be blowing the cold air to take the temp down to keep at whatever temp u have. Try taking off auto and see if it continues.

I shouldn't need to take it off "Auto"- that defeats the reasoning behind the automatic feature. Why would I pay extra to get the "Auto-climate control" and have to turn it off & on to keep the temperature at 70 degrees?? I am just asking if others that have the "Auto-climate control" have this issue or does my truck have problems with it. Please let me hear from others with Climate control---good and bad.
Thanks

Dude... If you aren't willing to do some basic troubleshooting, it makes it very difficult for others to help you with your problem.

I will try taking it off "Auto" next time I take the truck for a long drive (1 plus hours) but I don't know when that might be. With the temp at -10 degrees here now it will take a LONG time to get the temp to 70 in the truck.

Did it just happen all at once or did you hear it making funny sounds lately? Mine went out slowly as in over weeks and started blowing cold, just some actuator.

I have the auto climate. Sometimes it will blow some cold air out. I keep mine around 68. On mine I think it's because the cab gets warmed up by the sun. This is the second ram I've had that blows cold air going around a big curve, like getting on the hwy.

I have just noticed it in the last month-and only on drives of an hour or more. ( and since the out door temps have dropped greatly here. It seems to me that the controlling temp sensor is too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Mine will even do it when it's dark out.

Hi 1 Ram Guy,

If you decide to visit your dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

Well I finally got my Ram in to the local dealer. They checked for codes on computer- No codes. Then they performed a calibration test- said it passed. Then they took on a test drive for 17 miles (in 10 degree weather) and said it is working properly- I haven't driven it far enough to test it myself yet- but will keep you posted after I take it for a long drive.
I have now seen other posts on this forum from people with the same issue-so it must be the way the Rams work.
I have had 2 Fords, 1 Lincoln, & 1 Chevy with climate control- and none of them blew cold air when set for 70 degrees on cold days here in Minnesota.

This is the best climate control I've ever had. If it's cold out and the temperature is right inside the truck. If I open the door and leave it open ,that blower comes on high speed. Trying to get it back to the set temperature.

clh1220- my truck will do the same when interior temp drops below the set temp-like yours-BUT- I don't like it blowing cold air when it gets to the set temp. I would think that the fan should slow or stop until the temp drops below set temp then increase as needed to get cab back to set temp.

I noticed mine doing that recently as well (I have about a 40 min commute). I get how auto climate works but it seems like something is off because it's blowing ice cold air and it feels ridiculously cold in the cabin even if it's just leveling off the temp. It also seems like the heat never actually kicks back on even if I bump it up from 68 to 72, so something doesn't seem right to me. I was planning on getting it checked but my warranty visit for my backup camera sidetracked me haha.

It seems like my Ram is doing the same as yours ss12108.

And as far as being "picky" (clh1220) -- I don't feel as I am picky- I just want it to operate the same way the competitor brands do- and the Ram should too!!

Don't forget the temp sensor is in the headliner....so heat rises, and once the headliner gets to temp, it stops blowing hot air and starts with the cold to maintain temp.

I just put the fan on a speed manually, and it seems to keep it warm.

They really need 2 temp sensors....1 for heat down low, & 1 for A/C up top.
