The last couple of weeks I have been getting this "eerrrrr" type grinding sound. It happens when I am merging on the freeway or accelerating from a stop. If I baby the gas, I don't tend to hear it. But, if I give it a bit of juice then I here it for the first and second gear change.

What do you think? I went to the dealership today but it was packed. so, I left for home. It's really annoying me.

You will hear it when I hit 18mph in the below video.

That sucks man. They'll literally never fix a problem like that. They'll never be "able to replicate" an issue like this. Sucks.

I don't really hear it or I'm hearing the wrong thing the only thing I hear is rattling here and there. Are you feeling a vibration along with the sound or anything else?

Yeah, there is some rattling, I honestly tried like 15 times to get the excess noise out. I can hear it in the video. I cant explain the sound other than it sounding like a mechanical "eeerrr" sound. Lasting for a second.

Hmm trying to think of any similar sounds from my truck only thing that I think would sound similar is when mds engages or disengages there is that slight vibration/exhaust note change.

Check your exhaust clamps. They may have loosened since you put it on.

Good suggestion, I will crawl under in the morning and check it out. Only thing is, I had a shop cut and weld my exhaust in. But, it is worth looking. Thanks for reply.

Sounds like you have aftermarket exhaust, and the suggestion to check clamps is a good one. What kind of exhaust do you have? Check the hangers also. I can kind of hear it sounds kind of like resonance and if something loose that'll amplify it.

Alright, I will look into that. I had an exhaust shop weld in a magnaflow 14" about a year ago. I am going to crawl under and scope it out in the morning. Thanks for reply.

I can't really hear it in the video, but can you tell roughly where it might be coming from? Mine does something similar, as well as a few others I've talked to before. It's kind of a metallic grinding sound coming from the rear. Took it to the Dealer a few times while it was under warranty, and of course got the "could not replicate problem" response.

I will actually get a better sound clip tomorrow. It sounds like it is coming right out of the exhaust. Like a few pointed out earlier. I opened my back window and it sounds like an exhaust issue. But, I am no mechanic and I will post a better sound video tonight or tomorrow. :)

My guess would be something loose in the muffler. Had that a long time ago with an aftermarket exhaust system (on a VW, not a RAM), right after installation though so I got it exchanged under warranty.

I would say definitely a component of the exhaust -did you check the alignment of your tips after you drove your truck and had it nice and warmed up-the heat will cause your tips to shift a bit it did this on my challenger and the tips actually almost melted the fascia because it was pressed right against it after the exhaust warmed up. Almost sounds like your tip is slightly touching your rear bumper and vibrating against it or maybe another component of your exhaust touching a suspension part.

My guess is the exhaust is loose somewhere, like at a joint or a hanger broke and is touching at the break and is rubbing at a certain rpm/twist/torque of the drive train. Or the exhaust has moved due to being loose and is contacting and rubbing somewhere. Last guess is a loose heat shield which will vibrate some times and make noise even if it is not very loose. Kind of a zinging sound if that makes sense. The louder it gets the easier it will be to replicate and eventually find. I have a noise on my daily driver right now that is yet to be identified.

Hi HemiPower36,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to revisit your local dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

Sounds like a heat shield is vibrating with the resonance of the exhaust at that moment.

Check your manifold shields, you may have a broken stud or two.

Awesome!! Thanks everyone for the feed back. I am going to just take it in to where I had the muffler installed a year ago. I will have them lift the truck up and check out everything. They know what they are looking at far better than myself. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. :)
