Ford or Dodge is the way to go especially if he is looking for anything new.
Problem for me was that Ford was not willing to negotiate like Dodge was.
For the money, I don't think you can get better than the Dodge Ram.
If he is going to mod for power, I would look hard at Ford though...$600 tuner/tune and you add so much fun!
