Could be true, but I certainly hope not. If this indeed comes to fruition, then I am buying a 2018 Hemi RAM as I have no interest in a highly stressed dual turbo V-6.

That's what I would be interested in doing as well. Hopefully things change and they keep the hemi going.

I don' think it's going away. Ford recently announced the next gen Coyote 5.0 V8 to be in the new F150's this fall as a 2018.

I wouldn't doubt it but it will probably come gradually. Decrease the number of hemis produced and increase the turbo 6s until the 6 cyl is more commonplace. Unless we get another liberal (could be Repub or Dem at this point) in the Whte House. Then it may happen more suddenly.

Ha they can do want they want now I have a new truck that is low mileage and I should be able to keep for years to come. shoot I have only put 3000 miles on it since I bought it last Dec 26th.

I wont buy a V6 turboed or not for a full size truck I will go back to a big Diesel first.

I'm sure the 5.7 as we know it is on its way out. I'd love to see it updated or redesigned with a switch over to direct injection & MAF. Those two would provide a decent jump in mpg & power while likely decreasing emissions, but also come with the development costs. I knew this was coming a few years ago with the 4.7 when Dodge offered a no cost upgrade to the 5.7. Makes it easier to phase out the old 4.7 & justify not having spare parts around / manufactured. They started doing a similar sales tactic last year or year before with the 3.6, except with a rebate IIRC.

There were rumors of a 4.8L V8, maybe based on the Petastar V6, to replace the 5.7 Hemi. However, now the rumor is (yes, rumors of the rumors, I know) that the 4.8L idea was scrapped. Supposedly they have a lot of 5.7s stockpiled to last until they no longer offer a V8. We'll see if they update it a little to increase HP/TQ.

Well, I hope they introduce an 8 speed behind the 6.4 before that happens. Then I will be set for a while. I'll go back to a Cummins before I run some pissant turbo POS. I, for one, do not have Eco Boost envy.

Anything is possible, but I don't see the hemi production ending any time soon though.

Agreed. No interest in a turbo v6 in a full size pickup, regardless of how well they run.

If it ain't got 8, it ain't great. Lol.

not sure if the vocabulary matters, but i believe the 4.8 engine was shelved, not scrapped. on paper, it is a great engine, capable of matching and exceeding hemi numbers, but more expensive to build.

Interesting. Was the 4.8 to be NA?

I can say the 5.3 in my 2015 Silverado had A LOT of juice. It ran very strong once you got it past the stupid gm lazy throttle response and torque management. At wot or near wot, i was all smiles. No question it would out run the old 5.7 gm V8 in the older pickups.

This has to be one of the most successful engines in history. I'd be curious where it stands for overall sales figures.

While the treehuggers would like to cease ALL production of V8's I'm sure, there are many business's where the power is needed. Construction, farm, ranch, utilites, and on and on. And some people simply don't like diesels.

All things have an end, I too am curious how this plays out over time, but I really love my hemi in the short time I've owned it.

Iy would never happen because thr old 5.7 would be 6 truck lengths ahead by the time that 5.3 made some power... lol :naughty:

Demon, Hellcat, Trackhawk, SRT variants. That is Dodge's image right now on vehicles that are too large to be ricers. Dropping either Hemi in those lineups seems like a huge mistake to me. Plus the Ram trucks rely heavily on the Hemi tag. I could see a turbo 6 being sold as another option though.
