Hello all,
Dads looking at upgrade his truck, has had since new an 01 cummins, he loves the truck but is at the point he wants it not to be his daily, keep the salt off.
Hes found a used 17 2500 with the 5.7, place has put a 6 inch lift and 35s on it. Im a jeep guy myself so I understand bigger tires=less power and all.
Truck has about 10k on it and their asking 42k as their lowest they will go. Is this a good deal? Seems a bit high to me but not sure.
Details: 2017 2500 Hemi 5.7
10k miles
four door, 4wd
leather interior
six inch lift with 35s

Thanks for any info on price and reliability with the 5.7

Depending on the brand, a 6" lift and 35's (assuming aftermarket wheels too) is going to cost ~$1500-$2k for the lift, ~$600-$800 for the wheels, ~$1200-$1500 for the tires, plus dealer markup and labor. Figure that out and subtract that from the $42k and you'll have the price of the truck. Good thing about a lift installed by a dealer is that it's covered under warranty. Bad ting about a lift installed by a dealer is that you're going to pay much more for it than you would someplace else.

Probably would help to know more about the truck. It could be BigHorn or a Limited... your talking a 10k difference at least there.

Just my opinion, I'd pass on that one. Also I would suggest looking for a 6.4L truck if he is going HD. Especially with a huge lift and bigger tires. There are also other benefits the 6.4 has over the 5.7 for truck duty. There is better cooling, some tougher materials used, etc. The bigger hemi makes for a much better driving experience IMO.

Its an SLT.

i wasnt sure the difference in output of the 5.7 to the 6.4, I know the 6.4 is built as much more of a performance engine not only in size but in material and strength of design. But was talking to one guy who said the MDS was a huge pain as he acted like he was too often cutting down. But thats why I came here ones opinion is good but it is just one person

To eliminate MDS just put it in manual mode and select the highest gear. No more MDS. You can also get a programmer and a second PCM but that's a much more expensive alternative.

The 6.4L is a truck engine in the trucks. It's different from the LX/LY platform 6.4L engines.

I really liked my 2014 6.4L powered Ram CC. Great truck.

When I leveled and went with 35's on my 2007 with the 5.7L it killed the truck's performance. The 2014 just shrugged it off and ran great. Once I tuned it, it turned into a beast.

yeah, I'm runnin' a CTD now but that's because the 6.4L Ram met it's demise at the hands of an inattentive driver. Otherwise, I'd still be running with it.

^Yep. The 6.4 will easily break my 35s loose and pull like a freight train. The faster you go she just says "that all the weight you can give me" :roflsquared:
