Picked up a couple 14 Rams, going to build the 4x4 pictured below. Thought it would be fun to have a thread on it, done a few builders thru the years. Hopefully this won't turn into one of those "what salvage cars are worth" threads, it's happened before and if you want to discuss that start your own tbread. Anyway, progress so far, this is the truck, a 14 Big Horn Quad in black. Dog can't wait to go for a spin.

Here's the donar. Another 14, flood truck. Was dent free but showed up caved in. Yellow paint makes me think the loader backed into it, sad deal cuz I really needed those parts.

that sucks! hope you got some money back! good news is new fenders aren't too pricey so used should be pretty reasonable.

good luck!

No used fenders around but picked up new for a fair price. The auction site said $400 is best they can do, won't admit fault, basically go away money. The rules are not in your favor, they can basically say and do whatever they please. It's OK though, stuff happens and it's been a fun project so far. Going to sell both boxes and put this on as well...

Subbed.
I would like to possibly swap my standard box out to a rambox at some point so be sure to post up details of any wiring differences you notice/run into.

Excited to see it come together! I always wanted the Rambox but then I couldn't find a used one when I bought mine.

Cool project.

A buddy of mine from High School had a dad that did nothing but rebuilding and flipping salvage vehicles. Did pretty good business and you would be hard to notice it was a rebuild salvage after he was done.

Can do.

So here she is now, body off and stripped down! Now to tear into the donar, will take a few more pics of that tear down, also coming up with an idea for lifting the cab with an engine hoist. Put some dents in the junk cab lifting with straps, going to weld up some lift brackets for the good cab.

Man that's really cool! Mind if I ask how much the donor vehicles were? Just curious... not judging at all. I want to see this happen.

People can say what they want about salvage cars, a friend of mine from college had a Pontiac Grand Prix that her dad bought wrecked, and rebuilt himself. She abused the hell out of that car. I used to be a volunteer fireman during my college years, and I had to borrow her car once because I got a call and her car was far closer than my own. That thing was so dirty and nasty I could barely see out of the windshield. But the damn thing was a tank, she had that thing up until a couple of years ago, I think she might even still have it as a spare car. Salvage cars, IMO, are kind of a high risk, high reward kind of thing. If you know what you're doing, why the hell not?

Good luck with your project man. I'm interested to see how it comes along.

Update, rambox and door are stripped down, dropped off for paint. As for the Rambox wiring, it's pretty simple. The taillights are wired to the body, no separate harness, just unplug the bulbs and they pull down, as seen in first picture. They would plug right back into the donar box, so as far as that goes it's plug and play. The boxes have lights, which are fed by a simple positive and negative wire set on each side...second picture. My truck does not have plugs on it for this, so I'll have to wire those to a power source. Thanks pretty much it...simple swap far as the wiring goes.

Do the RamBoxes have power or manual locks for them?

Manual. Fortunately, mine came with a key :happy107:

BTW, tailgates are interchangeable, between the Rambox and standard bed.

If a rebuild is done right then it's just as good as a non wrecked vehicle. I have owned two. They are super hard to get rid of, but they never gave me any issues.
