I recently bought a used 2015 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the 8 speed auto transmission and 5.7 engine.

I found that I usually cannot turn cruise control on without first pressing the gear up button. Once I do that, I can turn it on and off without a problem.

It stays working until "something" happens. I haven't figured out what that is, but it usually stays working until the next time I drive it. It may work until I turn the truck off for a while.

So for example:
* I start the truck, drive out onto the road and eventually get somewhere that I want to use cruise control
* I push the on/off button for cruise control. Nothing happens.
* I push gear up. I'm already in drive, so it doesn't actually change gears or anything.
* I push the cruise control on/off button again. This time it works.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Crap switch assembly. Take it in for warranty replacement.

I am having the same problem. I've been waiting for almost 6 weeks for the ****** dealership to get the parts to fix the issue. I also have been getting a check engine light with a P0456 code. Dealer cleared the code the first time and said it's a fluke.

The light keeps coming on and now the dealership is telling me the cannot get me in for almost a month due to all the recalls on other models. I guess I should have kept my Tacoma instead of gambling on Chrysler trash. /rant

There was another thread about something similar, I have intermittent cruise issues. Some people have said the CC switch on the steering wheel, I haven't taken mine in yet.

mine is going in for the fourth time today for intermitting not working.
first time they said they couldn't get it to do it.
second time they replaced steering wheel switch
third time they replace clock spring
we will see now what they do.
I told them to keep it drive it what ever til it is fixed.
there paying for rental, so we will see.
will post what they find.
each time they check it tho, they say they found no codes.
I am like, you need to trouble shoot it.. (saying that to myself)

That's nice that they are providing you a rental. My stealership said rentals are not covered for warranty work.

Did you call them a stealership right before you asked for the rental?

Just saw your other post. You need to find a new dealer. Sounds like they suck.

The all suck in the Bay Area. I called the other dealership in San Jose and got the same run around about a rental and they are even further out for appointments. I know I sound a bit salty but I think not only do I need to find another dealership, I think I need to find another brand lol.

WOW
Well when I got there today cruise wasn't working, so I didn't cut truck off, service writer checked it saw it wasn't and cut truck off, restarted it and it went to working, then he tried a few things and got it to repeat what it was doing to me, so now maybe they can get it right.
Now there say maybe a harness.
Anyway they look at it, there keeping it a few days, and I said drive the hell outta it so you make sure it is fixed
My dealership said rental was covered for 3yr/36k
Most of time they give ya a lil car like a dart of something, BUT this time they musta wanted to keep me happy,
They asked if I wanted a truck, I said yes and I figured I get a ram 2 wd
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO|
I got a f-250 super duty extended cab 4x4
I didn't really need it BUT if there offering, what the hell

Dealer called today
I asked for update
Service writer said the tech cfound nothing wrong, so service writer went back to shop, he stated he got the problem to repeat its self like when he first saw it,
NOW I am wondering about tech that is working on it.
Anyway, said they need to order the wiring harness in steering wheel.
Then service advisory said he would drive it home to make sure it was fixed.
I said that's cool, I don't want it back til it is right.

Funny tho, the tech said he found nothing wrong and couldn't get it to mess up, and the advisory was able to right from get go.
Maybe time to trade for another brand.
Truck has 31,*** miles.
I have the extended warranty BUT I was told that if after the 3/36 this problem comes up again it is cover, as it is an existing problem.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO get my truck back on Friday

Techs are like that sometimes. Especially with warranty rates that do not pay well. They do not want to spend the extra time to verify a problem unless it falls in their lap as obvious

well what ever the techs thoughts, I am really thinking if it happens again, ITS GONE, trading for a gmc or chevy.
warranty rates, repair rates or service rates its all part of the job.
it you don't like it, change careers

Do whatever you want but the grass is not greener. I came from a new Chevy and would gladly trade a cruise control switch problem for some of the crap I had with the Chevy.

As to techs giving a crap, world peace would come sooner.
