I'm not sure what your question is

I believe he wants someone to discuss every good and bad thing for every year that he has designated and what to stay away from for each and everyone of those years........have fun with that.

I would certainly want a 2013 as that is when RAM introduced the 8 speed transmission in the 1500. If I were buying a 1500 I for sure would want the 8 speed, night and day difference between it and the 5 speed in the 2011 and the 6 speed in the 2012

In 2011 it was cheaper/easier to regear, but you are stuck with the 5-speed. In 2012 it becomes more expensive to regear and you are still stuck with the 6-speed. In 2013 you could get the 8 speed and you get a much nicer interior refresh, mainly the 8.4 option. After 2013 it also gets a little tougher to swap radios to aftermarket.

Each year has it positives and downsides, just depends on what you want to do ultimately with mods.

Can you disclose your truck budget?
As stated above I would try to look for a 2013 and up year (that was the redesign year) with the 8 speed transmission and if you want a fun truck or will be doing any towing get the 3.92 gears.
As for everything else (bells and whistles) it's all up on you and what you prefer and budget $$$.
Do you want a single, quad, crew cab. Do you want a nicer interior or don't mind just a basic interior. Different packages etc...

Good luck on your search for us to better help you, you can also post trucks your interested in and we can all chime in if it's a good choice

Thanks for replies. Budget around 30. Quad cab. So the 8 spd is worth it and look for 3.92 gears. I was really just looking for some don't buys because ... from some who owned or had experience.

If this helps, I traded in my 11 Nissan Frontier 4x4 Crew Cab for a 15 Ran 1500 4x4 Big Horn Crew Cab with 22k miles on it. The Ram was $27k. I love driving this truck. Took it out in the snow today, in 2wd it was having trouble making it up a snowy hill. Tossed it in 4 lock (not a fan of 4 auto) and it went right up! I love this truck. Much better interior than the new F 150's in my opinion.

I had the same budget and just purchased a few days ago. My two cents (for what it's worth)...decide what you're REALLY comfortable spending and what you REALLY need in a truck (features wise). ex. If $30k is your budget ceiling...why are you looking at '11-13 trucks?

What are you going to do with it? If you're just running it down the highway every day at 70 MPH (my case) and occasionally tow a utility trailer...I wouldn't exclude good trucks with highway gearing because you "might" get a travel trailer in 5+ years.

You have a lot of options for $30k. ex. The '16 Big Horn (CPO) with 14k that I just picked up was less than that. For what it's worth...if a power seat was available on the even lower trim trucks, I would have gone with a new one of those. I thought the Tradesman drove just fine.

I just got a 2016 big horn QC 4x4, 5.7!hemi w/ 14,000 miles for 27,900 If you look around you can find the higher trimmed trucks:bighorn, lone star etc for a reasonable/good price and with your 30k budget you should have no problem finding what you want. As others have said stick with the 8 speed. And if you don't want all the bells and whistles as stated before you could prob find a new 17!or leftover 16 express for under 30k.

The truck in my sig, 2016 QC 4x4, 5.7, 8sp express that has all the normal options on it.
I did not want alot of the things that come on the higher end trucks.

I just bought a '15 Laramie with 14k on the clock for 30k in mint shape. 4x2 but with the 3.92 gears. Then I outched out 2.8k for the Mopar lifetime protection plan; happy as a clam.

Thanks a lot guys! Appreciate the help! 30k should get me a nice rig. I'll look for 3.92s and get shopping.
