I just picked up a brand new 2500 Tradesman 4x4 Hemi 6.4 today from the dealership. When I picked it up, the odometer read 6 miles. Every time I've stopped it and turned it back on, the odometer has reset itself to 6 miles.

Has anyone had this happen before? What is the cause, and what is the solution?

Thanks a ton..!!

Nope, I've never heard of such a thing, but semi-good news for you, you're going to get a do-over. Take it to the dealer, and demand they refund all of the money you spent because you have NO way of knowing how many miles are actually on the truck. Oh man, what I would do for a do-over lol.

None the less, even if you're happy with it, demand another truck, I'm telling you now, you're looking at nothing but problems from here on out if you keep that truck, when the ODOMETER is having issues... expect epic failures in the future.

EDIT : In most states it's illegal to reset or alter the odometer, even if on accident, please, don't play around with that, and get it to them first thing in the morning, and once again, demand a new one.

To actually answer your question about the " cause " though, it's just a fried PCM, nothing overly major, but the ball is in your court, if you're not good with being a ****, then find someone that is, odds are you'll end up with way more than you expected. Use the buzzwords, " illegal ", " jail ", " Lemon ", " trust ", lol... I know it's hard to be mean to people you like, but you gotta!

Guys,
Thanks for the input. I'll be in touch with them first thing. Bad part is the dealership is about 100 miles from my house. I fired it up, drove it home, left the house to go somewhere, and noticed it was back to 6 miles. Duplicated it a couple more times.

Doesn't sound good to me.

Thanks for all the input.

The further away they are, the better your hand man. It's all about how much you're willing to milk it. I once drove 35 miles for a complaint, I left with a brand new upgraded vehicle, and didn't pay a dime, direct dealer swap. It can be done, and what you have is a million times worse than what I had.

^^^ This!!!

You never know when it might decide to start working again. Then your screwed and have no proof of what is happening. Who's to say it starts working for 2 months and then stops again once you put 2,000 miles on the truck? Then it becomes an issue where they will want to fix it and make you keep the truck.

You JUST spent $40k, $50k, $60k or whatever you spent on it, on a BRAND NEW truck and it's got major computer problems. Seriously take pictures or take a non-stop video with no breaks, so it's clear and they can't say anything about stops and starts in the video.

I would never stand for such a thing if I just bought a new truck.

Guess what?

If you bring it to them and they want to fix it and have you keep the truck still, your title now has odometer issues and will forever have red flags for its odometer and true mileage. Your resale value just completely went to ****. Seriously.

I would never in a million years let them just fix it and keep the truck. You just bought a brand new truck and now the title is going to be screwed.

yup, yup, and more yup. ^^ this guy is right. I had a durango that had weird tiger stripes in it, dealer wanted to paint it, I said screw that, it'll always be a repainted car, took a while, but got a new one. And that was just for paint, what you have here is much better, gold even. Demand a cumins, or even a laramie, tell them to take off the price a bit for the trouble, and to ensure you get full value ( what you paid + time wasted ) for the old one.

No way I would comfortable keeping that truck. Who knows what electrical issues would pop up down the road and even if the replaced everything i still wouldnt trust it. Plus like said, your brand new truck already has a messed up odometer and that will never be legit no matter what they do. **** that sucks.

Did you order the truck or get it off the lot?

Depends if the mileage is resetting on both the PCM and the Speedometer, or if it's just the Speedometer that has the problems.... then they can get the actual mileage from the PCM and replace the Speedometer.

Or they could lie about that and just input whatever mileage they want when they install the new pcm and gauge cluster.

I know, he's trapped in the movie "Groundhog's Day" and has to keep reliving the same mileage over and over and over and over and over.... Hahaha!!!!
