Even with my Gen3 4.7, RCSB with 3.92's, I average 17.5-18 with mixed driving. If I am on the highway, if I keep it at 60MPH, I can get 21-21.5 MPG.

I was reading through this 2 year old thread but never really found an answer. Does anyone know why most people are getting 25 gallons in a 32 gallon tank? That's 7 Gallons sitting in the tank? Does that sound about right for the size of the tank's surface area?

I just let my 2500 (31 gal tank) go about 15+ miles once the low fuel light came on, the gauge was pegged to the left and the other low fuel indicator on the EVIC was on. I was a bit nervous. Filled it up and it took right at 27.8 gallons. With easy driving I suppose I had another 30+ miles left to dry. Not sure if this is good or will get me stranded at some point.

the biggest reason not to run your tank down is the fuel pump. They are now in the tank and letting them get exposed by running your tank empty is NOT a good idea. So how does Ram avoid a costly repair under warranty from people running their fuel down to minimal levels between fill ups? they trick you into getting gas before this happens. Pretty simple and im surprised everybody is surprised by this.

I don't know about them "tricking" anybody but you are 100% correct about not running it completely empty because of the fuel pump. The pump is an electric motor that generates heat. The gas cools the pump to keep it from overheating causing it to fail. Another reason why you may not get the full 32 gallons is because the pump, sending unit and baffles and such takes up room in the tank displacing the gas.

im surprised that you are surprised that people are surprised by this. Do you think that average person on this forum knows anything about a fuel pump needing to stay cool?

Also, the pumps being used in the ram truck is also not a direct pressure pump anymore, its more of a pulse style that runs much cooler than it used to, so the fuel cooling the pump isn't really an issue any more.

To me, a 32 gallong tank that has the "low fuel" light come on with damn near 7 gallons left in the tank if ******* rediculous. 7 gallons......7 GALLONS !!!!.....that was over a 1/4 tank in my silverado that i just traded in. The world is full of idiots, but not 7 gallons worth, in order to keep ram drivers from running out of gas, so that aint the reason.

Whats even more awesome, i have a 32 gallon tank that reads empty with damn near 7 gallons in the tank......and when the lovely little "low fuel" light comes on, i can t use my ******** remote start when its cold a **** out.

Great engineering concept Ram....... oh, and it has nothing to do with cooling a fuel either pump fellas. Its a ****** design and nothing more.

I average 16-17 and I have put 30 gallons in my 32 gallon tank before. MTE still was like at 20 miles.

I agree with you. I fill mine up and most of the time it takes 23 to 24 gallons. And that is with the 26 gallon tank. I've never had a electric fuel pump problem.

My 32 gallon tank has taken over 26 gallons one time. I know that the distance to empty is really distance to 75 miles to empty. Good to know if I ever need to stretch it.

I worried about this too when I did my first few fill ups, but looks like it's common. The most I've ever filled while on empty was 28 gallons.

I have bigger problems to worry over than fret about having 7 gallons left in my fuel tank when the low light comes on.

Since 1/2 a tank is "empty" for me it's not even a concern. I learned years ago that it's better to have gas than trying to get gas. Anyone else remember the oil embargo?

So you have around a 400 mile range with the 26 gallon tank. That means I would have to stop every 200 miles. I don't think so.

I ran the tank down to where the light was on for a good while and showing 50km to E, and I finally filled it up with 110 liters out of 121 (32 gal tank for the Americans). So that means that there was roughly 3 gallons left at 50km to E. So yes, there's a big reserve included, but it's nice for us who live in more rural areas so that if we forget to fill we can still make it to the gas pump!

I just picked my 2016 up with a 26 gallon fuel tank last week and I have 1050 miles on it, so I've only put 3 tanks of gas in it, 1 regular driving, 1 highway driving, and 1 towing. Best I can tell is the fuel light comes on with about 2 gallons of gas left in tank.

The reason I say this is based on the EVIC MPG rating and how many miles shown left when it comes on.

For example, with my regular driving I was getting around 18 mpg, when my low fuel light came on EVIC said I had around 36 mile to empty. On the highway I was getting 20.5 or so mpg (5.7 Hemi, can't believe it's actually getting that many MPG :) ) and it said I had around 42 miles to empty. Then, when I was towing on the highway, I was getting around 11.5 MPG and the EVIC said I had 22 miles to empty when the low fuel light came on.

I don't know about the 32 gallon tank, but if the build sheet says it I would be apt to believe it, otherwise you gave about a 32 gallon tank of gas to the dealer for nothing ;)
