Ram Unveils 2017 Truck Updates, Lone Star Silver Edition | Off-Road.com Blog

from the Article:

Later today at the State Fair of Texas, Ram will announce the updates to its 2017 truck lineup, which includes tweaks to three of its popular models. Ram also is announcing it will offer a new Silver Edition of its Ram 1500 Lone Star, which is its best-selling truck in Texas.

“The Ram Lone Star Edition is the original Texas truck,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand, FCA –Global. “It’s impossible to overstate the significance of the role Texas plays in the pickup truck segment. At the same time, Ram trucks are an iconic part of the Texas landscape. As the longest-lasting truck in Texas, there are literally millions of Ram pickups still on the roads.”

The Lone Star Silver Edition will feature a host of upgrades, and if you like chrome you’re going to be excited about this truck. The new model’s additional features include a new luxury grille (with chrome Wave Mesh inserts) that features a Lone Star badge, new bright belt moldings, chrome exterior side-view mirrors, chrome side-steps (with the chrome running from wheel to wheel), polished 20s and front tow hooks. The Lone Star Silver Edition will be available on Ram 1500 4×2 and 4×4 Crew Cabs, and short and long box models with the option of the Pentastar V6 engine, HEMI V8 or 3.0-liter EcoDiesel. The Lone Start Silver Edition Package has a starting price of $900 with the MSRP starting at $38,995 (plus a $1320 destination charge).

Ram has updates for a number of other models in its 2017 truck lineup, including the Limited and Longhorn models. For the 1500, 2500 and 3500 Limited models there is the option to upgrade the tailgate to the same style featured on the Ram Rebel that features larger RAM lettering (it’s a $195 option). The Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 Longhorn models will get a new bright-chrome grille and chrome belt moldings, with the new billet port grille featuring RAM lettering as well. For the 1500 Longhorn model, Ram is adding standard Keyless GO, SmartBeam headlghts and rain-sensing wipers on the 2017 models.

Ram also announced the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Laramie, Longhorn and Limited trims will come standard with a HEMI V8, and the 4×4 versions of the Heavy Duty Longhorn and Limited will now be equipped with standard Bilstein monotube shocks. All 2500 models will now be available with a new 4×4 Off-Road package that comes with Bilstein shocks, hill-descent control, a limited-slip differential, all-terrain tires, tow hooks, a transfer-case skid plate, fender flares and a new “4×4 Off-Road” graphic.

Ram also announced another new model, the Ram 1500 Night Package, a special-edition truck that takes the Sport cues a few steps further. The Night will offer black 20-inch aluminum wheels, a black grille and black badging, all of which add to the body-color-matched parts already found on the Sport model such as the fascia, rear bumper, power-folding mirrors and door handles. It also features black bezel projector head lamps with LED marker lights and black-bezel tail lamps to complete the look. The Ram 1500 Night

This is intriguing...does the Night Package have a functional hood scoop?

A Ram Rebel Hellcat Concept is Finally Here - Torque News

Before getting into the specifics of the Ram Rebel TRX Concept, a quick look at why there is so much demand for a half ton pickup with the Hellcat Hemi. It surely seems ridiculous to some people to have a truck with huge power, but I should remind those who have forgotten that back in 2004, Dodge offered up a half ton truck with the powerplant from the Dodge Viper. Back then, the Viper V10 was the most powerful engine ever offered by the Chrysler Group and with 500 horsepower and 525lb-ft of torque making the Ram 1500 SRT10 the quickest, the fastest and the most powerful production truck ever.

The Ram SRT10 with Viper power proved to be very popular over the three years of production, but since 2006, Ram hasn’t offered a proper performance truck. There have been plenty of Ram 1500 packages with the 5.7L Hemi which offer great performance, but there hasn’t been a true high performance truck since Ram became its own brand in 2009.

However, that could all change, as the new Ram Rebel TRX Concept follows the powertrain trend from the 2006 SRT10 Ram, packing the most powerful engine in the corporate lineup into a half ton truck. However, this time around, the high performance Ram truck is built to tear up the offroad tracks with the supercharged Hellcat Hemi where the V10 Ram was all about on-road performance.

“Ram Truck heads to the 2016 State Fair of Texas with a host of product news plus a new concept that pickup fans will truly appreciate – the Ram Rebel TRX concept was built specifically for this event and solidifies Ram Truck’s position as the off-road pickup leader,” said Mike Manley, Head of Ram Brand, FCA – Global. “With 575 supercharged horsepower and a suspension system built to withstand an all-day hammering, the Rebel TRX concept can devour the roughest terrain at more than 100 miles per hour and never look back.”

If you cut out the appearance items this is what you have.

Bilsteins standard on Longhorn and Limited
Ram also announced the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Laramie, Longhorn and Limited trims will come standard with a HEMI V8, and the 4×4 versions of the Heavy Duty Longhorn and Limited will now be equipped with standard Bilstein monotube shocks.

This is now a package that could have been purchased separately - usually at a higher price.

I don't think there is much more you can do to upgrade these trucks. They are very well equipped - even the 2500 Tradesman level. You can start with the basic 2500 Tradesman and add a few options - limited slip, 6.4L, 4.10 gears and you have a very capable truck.

The thing with all these option is that if you buy/build a truck to order you usually pay very close to MSRP.

If you buy off the lot, you may not get everything you want but you get a great discount.
