Do you use Regular or Premium gas in your RAM?

I was just wondering because I haven't tried it yet. Since we have the ECO system, I was wondering if anyone has tried to compare gas mileage between regular gas or premium? I wonder if premium gas will improve gas mileage to the point of not buying regular gas. I know a lot of cars are tuned to regular gas and buying premium if not required is a waste of money. Has anyone tried it?

i use 89. Even though its less than $10 between low and high grade per tank depending on price per gallon. So you want really save that much putting in low grade gas

I've tried 87, 89, and now 83. I saw the worst mileage with 89. I think it is because in my area people are cheap so mid grade doesn't get used much.

I do notice that in MDS mode the truck seems to run a little stronger. Meaning the MDS stays on a bit longer than when I drive the same road with 87. Maybe the increased octane helps in 4cyl mode.

The jury is still out on which grade works best. However, I am with the masses. A $40K truck really shouldn't make a difference if you spend a few more bucks at the pump.

Besides....it's a Hemi.....not a hybrid.

I always use 93 in this truck. My R/T I tried all different octanes and it felt like a dog with 87(probably computer retarding timing because of knocking) and not much of a difference between 89 and 93

I put 93 in all my tanks. Cleaner, and more efficient gas. It is a total of 4-8 dollars more per full tank over here in texas. It's a 40grand MSRP truck why cheap out on 8 dollars? Not to mention I turn off MDS and get better, and or same gas mileage. Logged 23mpg on average with out MDS on high way trips, and better mpg in the city with out it.

I'm running something like 40 octane and not issues :) In my life before diesel, I always ran 89 and got better MPG.

Can't speak to shutting off MDS, but I noticed shutting off the ESP/traction control appears to improves my MPG.

Not sure if putting higher than recommended is a good thing to do.

Unless you are running high elevations, towing heavy in the heat, then 87 is just fine. Different areas have different qualities of fuel, water in the fuel, etc. Run each and track your fuel mileage driving the same each way, and you will probably find no difference at all.

I ran 87 exclusively until about 3 months ago when the local gas stations switched to ethanol mix. MPGs really suffered after that. I found that 93 does not contain ethanol, switched, and immediately my MPGs came back.

Unfortunately I don't think we will be able to get away from ethanol mixes at all soon.

In order to get away from ethanol here, you have to buy 91, I don't think it has ethanol in it. But it is 15 cents per liter more. Doesn't sound like much, but their are 4 liters to a US Gallon, so 60 cents more per gallon. 87 is already 5.50 ish a gallon here!

the only thing i complain about here in the Texas panhandle is that there's no 93 octane.... it's all over the place in the DFW area, but nothing here, so I can't use the 93 tune

Filled up at costco the other day in Alberta, where they have less sales tax, and only paid 113.9 per liter. 4.53 per US gallon. They pay ALOT more income tax though, so at the end of the year, it all balances out.

But I was excited to pay that, was filling up my jerry cans, etc.

I try and use only gas with no ethanol. Here we have some places that have 89 with no ethanol and then some places only premium which is 91 here is ethanol free. I am not sure what to answer on the poll since I almost always use 89 which is neither. Can you add more choices?
