I decided to look into what my truck may be worth on trade. I am broken hearted. I tried KBB and compared the model year, trim, etc... to local dealers, Carmax and dealers as far as 250 miles away. My truck is worth diddly ****...good thing I planned on keeping it anyway. I paid 32K for a 4x4 Express Crew Cab with trailer package, camera, body color bumpers. A year and a half later its not really even worth $26K around here. I checked out comparable used Chevys and Fords, about the same price. Could be the total dump the oil prices took too. People are selling their tricked out trucks for cheap to avoid repo.

My 2014 1500 Express with 14,500 miles is only worth $21000 for trade value....

What did you pay for it, I only paid $22K for mine brand new.

22k? I'd like to see the sticker options. I paid 32 for mine I believe. It was stickered higher by about 10k. I couldn't see paying 41k for an Express. 32 seemed decent considering it had the 8apd camera tow package and spray in bed liner. Plus I bought during the summer. I should've waited.

So I went to the dealer to look at some 2500s. found a Tradesman 2500 4x4 CC with 6.4 liter V8 that I liked. Drive it around, so much better than my 1500 6 speed. So I go to talk about price. My 2014 1500 Express with 14,500 miles is only worth $21000 for trade value....

looks like I'm riding this one out till my trans fails.

That's a kick in the balls man. I booked mine earlier. 2010 SLT QC 4x4 with 98k would still pull $21k on the street. Dealer offered me $19.5k trade.

Timing is everything. Trading at the end of the year close outs is a guarantee for getting low balled. Used truck prices around here are so high, better to buy new. Hang on for a while until spring and then shop around.

my trucks a 14 1500 4x4 Express 5.7 QC. 5.0 Uconnect, back up camera, tow package, body color trim/bumpers, 20 inch alloys, 31,000 out the door. Current blue book puts it at about 28,500 around here. Seems high but that's what it comes out to here in Sacramento. yeah, 21000 was a kick in the nuts.

22000 new seems.... really not common.

That's nearing 50% off MSRP, $20k off, , no way in heck...

MSRP should not even be part of the discussion. Most dealers know it is a mythical data point as most RAM's are sold way below MSRP with both factory rebates and dealer incentives.

Trading in a year old or less truck is financial suicide most times because the dealer knows what you realistically probably paid and it is not full MSRP. The reality here is that there is a 25% hit at trade in versus what the buyer paid and that is about average.

If anything, it should be a lesson to people to buy what you exactly want the first time and not be settling for less truck to only be trading a year or less later and paying the stupid tax in depreciation.

An express? That should be brand new price.

You would think but all the dealers in my area sell regular cab express for 34k-36k and the crew cabs for 36k-40k its crazy. I've seen brand new Laramie's sell for 36k-37.5k. I'm referring to sticker price on the express trucks I'm sure people get them cheaper but I have seen used express trucks with 10k-20k miles on them around here with 30k-34k prices on them.

I got 25.5 for my '12 with 30k miles. 6"zone lift, 37x13.50 trail grapplers with less than 2000 miles on them.

Trading in should be an absolute last option. No matter how you slice it you're going to take it up the butt. And more to the point of the thread trading in after 6 months or a year is just ridiculous. Selling anything that you paid more than $50 for in less than a year is bad economy.

Stop living so far beyond your means folks.... I'm in no way rich but like to think I'm somewhat financially wise. I owned my last truck for over 7 years and paid roughly 1K/year to drive it (2006 Duramax). I have about 50% equity in my 2014 Ram 2500.

Do your research and buy smart
Be patient and hang onto things for long enough to make it a wise buy
Hanging out at dealerships is a really costly way to get a free cup of stale coffee

well, at the recommendation of a few on this forum, I called Dennis Dillon. I'm pending a deal on a 2015 loaded 2500 6.4 4x4 CC. likely will fly out this weekend and drive back home. Waiting to finalize details over the phone tomorrow. I'm getting it at about the price of a lower spec Tradesman model that I've been finding around here. THIS was the truck I wanted from the start.

I bought my 1500 last year after being hit head on in my Tundra. I NEEDED a truck to get back to work ASAP. It fit the bill and thought it would do well. Unfortunately, over the last 6 months I've been noticing the poor little truck is really having a tough time keeping up. I still like the truck a lot (minus the 6 speed trans) but don't want to kill it. hate to say it but my 08 Tundra had a little less trouble keeping up with the work.

I guess I'll be a 2 RAM house hold for a short period of time, until I sell my 1500 PRIVATELY, no trade ins, my balls can't take another kick

If it is a power wagon.

like I said it's not my money, just my opinion. those power wagons and rebels do nothing more me. in all honesty this will be my last dodge, gasser, 1/2 ton truck for a while. vechicle prices keep rising while imho quality has gone down. sure they have the extra bells and whistles to keep you from seeing the overall build quality.

it's just part of the cycle, soon people will stop buying them as most don't need them and they will drop back down in price. that's when I will look hard into my dream truck, until then my 09 will stay with me.

depreciation is so vague as well as its pricing on vehicles because of the areas we all live in are different. bottom line is as soon as we have the keys in our hand, we lost

Because we need the capability of a 2500 but don't need the pricetag that comes with the clatter-6... because it's OUR MONEY. I for one don't like to spend 6-8,000 on an option I don't need.
