Thinking about trading...

So I got to looking at the 2012s. With what I owe on my truck and with the current rebates I think I might just be able to get into a higher optioned new 2012 RAM for a lesser payment than I have on my current truck.

My main reasons for wanting to trade are to get a crew cab. I like having the 6ft 4" bed but it's not an absolute necessity. I use my truck to haul things here and there but the extra cab space would be nice. I also want some of the creature comforts that come with the Big Horn and don't come with the SLT. Power seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, the cruise control buttons being on the steering wheel itself, dual exhaust, etc.... I also have always wanted the center console with the shifter. This is something I wanted when I bought my 2011 a little over a year ago. I've been looking to convert my truck to it but it doesn't seem very cost effective, and finding the parts at a salvage yard is hit and miss.

So what do you guys think? I have an appointment at my dealership tomorrow. Funny thing is I was going to try and sell my truck private on craigslist and the head of sales at my dealership saw my ad and texted me. I told him my terms and he wanted me to bring my truck in so they can look at it.

Definitely not a necessary thing to do but if I can lower my payment and at the same time get more options I am not really seeing any cons in this situation. Just hoping my credit union would bite on it, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Hopefully it works out. New truck lower payments can't go wrong with that

It'll be a close one. I think I owe just a hair over 26k on my truck. It books at nearly 28k. With rebates I can get into a loaded big horn crew cab for 30k which is 3k under what I paid for my 2011. I'm basically telling them no negative equity, and I want out the door at 30k. Not 30k then add taxes and what not. We'll see if they want to play ball.

I hope they don't try to screw you on the trade. You do have on your side that they called about your personal add with it for sale. As they always say, don't be afraid to walk out. If they want to make the sale they will call back

Nah I'll be right out the door if they try and waste my time. They saw how much I was asking for it. I'll take either it paid off, or a little extra on top. I'm not having any negative equity. My credit union will probably think I am nuts though. I just got a small personal loan through them to cover some wedding costs, I'm hoping they don't hold it against me that I would want to get another truck if I can.

i'm sure they don't personally care what you take money out for....all they care about it your credit and your debt to income ratio.

I had 6k equity in my trade in, all the incentives + an extra one for military, and still ended up paying 34 & some change for the new one, but mine is a loaded Laramie CC 4x4.

They actually lowered the price on the truck, THEN subtracted the incentives & equity to make it work.

If they want your business they will work with you. Some just don't care. I drive 45 minutes to see my dealer. The same family owns one 5 minutes from my house but I get better service and deals from the one that is farther away

I've considered trading up to a nicer 2500 4x.
Some dummy (me) is nice and upside down on his truck, so it makes it far more difficult.

Maybe some other day, a few years down the road.

I've honestly been thinking about it a lot lately also. I bought my truck 8 months ago and already put 11,300 miles on it. I bought the express and really regretting getting the express cuz I would love to have the interior options. Don't get me wrong I love the truck and love the 5.7 but I've been thinking about saving as much as possible and buying a 2500 ctd. I don't need the diesel but I really want a stick and that's the only way to get it in our rams.

Well.... unfortunately no deal was made. They kept beating around the bush about my trade in value. I owe something like $26,800. They wanted to give me $22,500. With the negative equity, and incentives the price on a new Big Horn Crew Cab with the tax, title, licensing, etc.... was $37,000. I didn't really like the salesman all that much, decent guy, and a former LEO but the gal I bought my truck from before was much better. She got promoted to Aftermarket Manager so she doesn't do sales stuff anymore.

Told them I'm not paying that much. I'll stick with my truck, which I am happy with, for a few more years and maybe look at a 2014 when they hit the market.

Yep. These guys kind of treated me like I am dumb. They wasted my time so now I'm wasting theirs. They think I am gonna talk to my credit union today. I'm definitely not. Not at 37k no way no how. Oh well I love my truck and I like the new features of the 2013s so perhaps I am better off waiting.

I could take care of ya but I'm in az. We don't play games like that at my dealer.
