Thinking of trading my 2014 Hemi in on a 2015 2500 5.7 Hemi. Since I bought the truck I seem to do more and more towing. I also use my truck as a daily driver and get about 18-19 mostly highway mpg any of you 2500 owners have some fuel mileage comparisons. Just cant justify the extra money for the diesel .

Same engine, heavier truck. While capable, I really wouldn't want a 2500 with out a diesel engine. It is more money, but seems worth it in the long run.

I am sure you will hear this a lot, but get he 6.4 hemi instead of the 5.7 hemi.
4:10 gears for sure.
I get about 600 km to the tank....so about 19 liter/ per 100km driving a mixture.....evic says I get anywhere from 15.0 to 17.0 liter per 100km.
Stiffer empty ride, but that is about the only drawback from the 1500, aside from the fuel consumption, but they are trucks after all.

the mileage is going to solely depend on how you drive. Get the 6.4..or get the truck u can get the best deal on. I wouldn't worry about gears.. the difference between 373 and 410 is so damn minimum...knowing what I know know after owning my truck for over a year..only viable gear option is a 456- but that's like 1500$ and for that money I can live with 373s

if ur thinking about mileage- don't bother lol- jump on fully and do a search.

If I was trading up to 2500 , I would get the 6.4 , doesn't seem to burn any more fuel the the 5.7 in a 2500

Ditto on the 6.4L. I had a 5.7L 2500 and kept wishing for more power when towing.

I don't tow heavy enough to justify a CTD and the 6.4L is more than capable of towing my stuff. And in comparison, while the 5.7L is a capable engine, the 6.4L is so much better.

3:73 to 4:10 difference in 6.4 is only about 3k towing difference, I would get the 6.4 in the 2500

^ yes there is a gvwr difference between the 373 and the 410- but don't let it be a deal breaker for u. Go to a dealer and drive both.. u won't notice the difference.

People saying they can't justify a diesel always boggles me. What is there to not justify when they last 3 times longer? Maybe I'm missing something, but my next truck will definitely be a diesel.

If going to a 5er you may just want to get a diesel. If you are like some of the guys in Socal that got to the desert/Glamis every other weekend between Halloween and Easter you may want the diesel. I like my 6.4 MC. My dad has the 5.7 2500 MC and it does fine but would want to pull a heavier trailer too often with it. I'm not a big ride quality guy as I expect a truck to act like a truck, especially a 3/4 ton. My 1500 is smooth as ice and rides great my 2015 2500 is stiffer but SOOOOOOO much better than my friends fords and Chevys 3/4 tons.

With that light a load, might want to think about a 1500 ecodiesel. I also tow a razr in an enclosed 24' car hauler, along with another quad, dirt bike, riding mower, and a ton of gear. And a 32' travel trailer. And a 6000+ lb ski boat. The baby diesel pulls all of it without complaining, but still gives a very smooth ride while unloaded, and averages mid 20s mpg. Be advised however, stock tuning (throttle tip in) requires a bit more input to get going/the turbo to flow, but you get used to it quickly. Or get the gde tune...

Hauling a 24 foot enclosed trailer with a 1/2 ton sounds awful.

If you look at my fuelly sig, you'll see the mileage CAN be quite acceptable in the 6.4 flavor.

My avg is 14.7 L/100km (16 mpg) but I have seen as good as 13.8 L/100km (17 mpg) on a tank.

Edit: I get between 800 - 900 km from a tank of fuel

Granted, I drive like a bit of a grandpa, and don't tow very much, but these trucks are capable of some pretty good numbers!

Wow..thats terrible lol! I'm getting 14-14.5 L/100 kms mixed with my 1500 (lifted with 35's. 12 L/100 kms when on highway driving normally), but my dad's 2013 F-250 diesel is getting even better than me!

IMO Diesel for sure OP. Much higher resale value as well. That alone will make up the difference in price.

If you want a 3/4 gas truck then go with the 6.4 as everyone else has stated. The 6.4 has MDS unlike the 5.7L in the 2500 chassis. It can be turned off with tuning im sure. I know that bothers some people. Even though the peak numbers of the 6.4L are not all that much higher. The distribution of available power is better in hauling/towing applications from what I have read ( not personal experience ).

The 6.4L would be more than capable for what I want out of a 3/4 truck, and I would not have to deal with emissions crap, and DEF. Plus I only drive about 9-10K miles a year.

Just wish it was not so hard to find a 6.4L Crew Cab Tradesmen in my price range around my area. There are 5.7's everywhere !

That's crazy. Around here I believe it's the opposite, mainly 6.4s on the lot
