I've been having my truck for about a year now, and still haven't figured out a good way to store my tools in it. I don't really carry too much few screwdrivers, ratchet, standard and metric sockets (about 20), channel locks, vice grips, crescent, WD40 and duct tape. It all fits in an ammo can which will fit under my seat, but the problem is the car seat. In order to lift my seat I have to uninstall my sons carseat which is a PITA. I don't want to leave the ammo can out because then its a potential projectile if I get in a wreck. The storage compartments in the floor hold my straps, jumper cables, plug kit and air compressor so no room in there. Looking to see if any one has any interesting storage ideas. Considering a toolbox in the bed, but I don't really need anything that big and don't really want to lose the space.

What year/ model is your truck buddy? Would you possibly have the in floor compartments under your back floor mats? That would be a great place

2015 crew cab. The compartments in the floor are already packed tight. I may have to move some stuff around.

I use the roll up canvas tool holders. It won't hold the WD-40, but does well with other items. I don't recall name of tool roll up, but I got it off amazon.

I'm interested in how others store their tools.

I personally have a "low profile" toolbox in my truck. It sits about 8 inches off the bed of the truck so I can slide long items underneath, it sits about a inch and a half high on each side of the bed. I personally love it I'm able to store my floor jack, various tools and air compressor all in it easily plus lock it away. I only thing I ever put in the back of my truck that won't fit without tailgate down is my atv. What do you haul that your against having a toolbox? Also imo the black toolbox adds good contrast to my white truck.

Store the stuff you would only use rarely/occasionally (e.g. jumper cables) under the seat, and the stuff you'd use more frequently (e.g. tools) in the floor compartments.

I think your only option is going to be some kind of a toolbox. Remember that you will always use whatever storage you have, so don't think of it as you don't need all the room from a toolbox. As mentioned, there are in the bed boxes you can use so they don't stick up over the bed rails. And they make smaller ones that just sit inside the wheel well too. Many options, check out a truck shop or look at someplace like weatherguard.com

you could swap you backseat for a 60/40 split so you have access to some of the underseat storage. or get a small tool box for the bed. they make some swing out ones that mount to the side of the bed.

Should have got a 2500 Mega Cab and problem solved. :flipthebird: Just kidding. You said it all fits in an ammo can. If that is all you need but don't want a projectile I would go by a small bicycle cable and lock and use your seat frame as an anchor point to keep it secure from thieves and accidents. MUch cheaper first option than a tool box.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to stir the pot!

Get a soft tool bag that will hold it all. I think you will find that it will slip in and out of the underseat storage with no issues. This is where the Ram Boxes come in handy.

I really like my swing out boxes. You can lock them and remove them if you need more room. I also have a backflip and the back box that can be folded away if you need more room

They swing on a hinge. you literally just lift them off. 1 second. and there's a place on the hinge for a padlock so they someone can just take them off and there's built in locks for the lid. If you check amazon under warehouse deals you can get them for 100 each i think normal price is like 180. Whats nice is you dont have to climb in the bed to get stuff out it swings around when the tailgate is down. Its called undercover model sc300p and sc300d P for passenger side d for drivers.
