Currently have a 2015 1500 Laramie, CC 5.7 bed with 3.21 gears. Pretty much loaded with moonroof, rails, chrome, sidesteps and Nav.

After buying it in August - found this forum and noticed the 3.92 gears were the way to go. Also - probably would like the 6.4 bed for better cargo/towing (although I don't tow often but who knows in the future -have 2 kids as of 2 months ago so possible vacation road trips etc.

Found a Big Horn within 2 hours of my house with similar features (no moonroof or leather, but I'm ok without those)

Money wise it would come out just about even after trade in and what I currently owe on the loan.

Wise idea to trade up/over (15 Laramie/16 Bit Horn? Thoughts?

I did notice I lose 40,000 mile powertrain warranty. Also lose the trade value a little downgrading trim levels.

Any advice would be appreciated this time around since I found the site!

I say no you're better off just swapping the gears. As far as the bed I can't help you on that one I wish I had the longer one as well

I'd say keep the Laramie. The extra features you have in that truck are worth the slightly smaller balls it has.

I'd also say keep. Hell I have 15 big horn with 3.92s and I'd trade for a Laramie with 3.21s all day. The extra comfort is very nice to have. That goes further on selling it later than the gear ratio does

Keep it & swap gears.

But what do you want the 3.92 to do that the 3.21 can't.

9/10 truck buyers and "car salesman" are clueless about gears. Sucks for them. I made that mistake once. It happens.

It really depends on what you want, based on how you use it. Do you often find yourself wishing you had more power? 3.92s may make the difference. The 6.4 is going to be more noticeable towing than everyday driving, I think.

As for future trade in value, a lot of that depends how you're going to use it and how long you're going to keep it.

In the end, only you can answer the question of whether the swap is good for you, but I would at least go drive the 6.4/3.92 on a route you're familiar with and see if/how different it drives than your 5.7/3.21.

Keep that Laramie, the gears are nice, but from 3.21's to 3.92's isn't worth the new depreciation, loss of leather, etc.

The standard bighorn seats don't set as well for me as the higher level ones, like the cloth/vinyl/leather ones in my Sport. Check it out well before you trade as it is a step back in comfort in my mind. Bighorn is a nice truck but the Laramie is just nicer.

I was under the impression that you could not change the gears in the 2015 models...something about a weld...

I have a loaded 16 Sport with the 3.92 gears and 6.4 foot bed. It's a quad cab. Id consider a trade for a crew cab Laramie. Not sure how that would work with loans though.

I have 3.21 and it scoots pretty quick. Get yourself a custom tune and you'll be ok with those gears. My mods are Vararam intake,Diablosport i2 with a Hemifever custom tune, catch can,170*t-stat, active grill shutters removed.

Most people say you feel the difference when getting going from a dead stop.

I had a 3.9L with a 3.9 rear now I have a 6.4L with a 4.10 rear so I don't have the feel for the tall gears vs the short ones.

I know I have to drive with a very light foot on the peddle or I really get moving.

I have 8 speed 3.92 with a custom tune and a few other items and i have to drive light footed also the first one i bought i didnt think it through then started reading this forum and realized that i should start looking into something more before i buy it . I think no manufacturer should ever put anything less than a 3.92 or something close in any truck .

If your not towing very often it's not going to be that huge of a difference. Plus the 3.21 is going to get you better fuel economy than 3.92 for said trips. I wouldn't take the hit for a lesser truck in my mind.

2015 qc express 8 speed 3.92 custom tuned ,headers ,magnaflow 16",vararam intake ,170 stat, clutch fan delete, ported throttle body and catch can mds is turned off i get 17 in the city and 24 on the hwy! I say get the 3.92 gears installed at most it should cost 1000 dollars instead of who knows how much in loss with trading.
