I'm thinking about trading in my 2011 ram 1500 for a 2017 ram 2500. The dealer is offering me $20700 for my 2011 ram 1500 big horn with 50000 miles in almost perfect condition but they will only offer $4750 off a 2017 ram 2500 big horn with a sticker of $52500. I've talked to the dealer 3 times now and they won't offer any more off. Does this sound right because I feel like I should get more off a new truck?

You might get a better deal if you wait until the end of the 2017 model year

The going rate for ram 2500 is about 10k off list. I would look at cars.com and try to find one there.

2 big dealers in Idaho -
Dave smith
Dennis Dillon-
Wait till september" Labor Day"
The biggest reason Ram is doing so well in the market is price - 10k back of msrp is huge -
I looked at a loaded ford eco boost that was 44k before tax and license -
Got my truck for 39k out the door-
How a half ton could be 5k more than a 3/4 ton is beyond me-
Ask your dealer if they will price match and use dennis Dillion pricing. or try selling ur truck private party.

48k is a 2500 big horn 6.7 price range

X2 on Dennis Dillon - even if you're just using them for comparing.

80% of MSRP is a good deal. You'll pay more on a newer/popular model, less for an older/less popular one.

There are lots of good programs out there to help you get a good deal - Costco, Truecar, etc.

Don't get caught up in all the monthly programs, rebates, invoice prices, etc, etc, etc. EVERY dealer's job is to sell you a car today and make it sound like if you don't buy now you'll never get as good of a deal. It's complete and total BS. Don't get rushed or pushed, do your research and you'll do fine.

The dealer is giving you more for your truck than it is worth, that is why the discount seems so low. Always negotiate the price of the new truck before talking trade in price. I always answer no when asked if I have a trade.

It isn't easy to find a dealer that will price match but they will, at least it was not easy for me but at the last minute one of the dealers I talked to caved. Look at True Car, the dealer that caved was a True Car dealer.

If you want big bucks for your trade you aren't going to get a big discount on a new truck. Your truck is only worth what the going auction values are, period.

As Huntergreen said, they're giving you more than they normally would for your trade. It all evens out in the end. Would it be better if they gave you more off in rebates/discounts and less for your trade? All the same... I paid 52k for my 2500 Laramie with 6.7, 4x4 and sport package. You could probably get a better deal by waiting for some better promos. Hope that helps!

I just picked one up 4 days ago. Traded my 2014 ram crew cab. It was last day of month and they needed 1 more sale for some incentive from Chrysler. It was late in evening when I got there. After all the offers and me saying not enough, was about to walk out. Still $3500 bucks difference to get my deal, which I wasn't going to come up with, they agreed to eat that along with $3500 in incentives. Got it. Yours seem high compared to mine. Not by truck to get sticker but think it was $48000. Haggle or go to another dealer.

I bought mine at 31dodge.com last year. They are in Kernersville, NC. They have around 300 Ram 2500s on their lot at all times. They start at $8-9k below sticker and you can negotiate from there a bit. Mine was $60K sticker and ended up at $48K. They delivered it to my driveway on a flatbed the next day for free! I was within their 300 mi radius for that delivery deal though.
I had my own CU financing, so I just found the truck I wanted on their website and the deal was done in literally two phone calls which lasted 10 mins each. These people do not BS and they have their sht together. I'll definitely buy from them again. I think they will pay for a one way flight up to a certain amount and you can drive home as well. Good luck!

FYI, I got mine form Dennis Dillon in Idaho. Had the truck in my sig line ordered. It is better equipped than the big horn you are wanting and i got it for a hair under $50K OTD. :favorites13:

Don't mean to steal the thread but I think it's an appropriate question and input - I'm looking at some trucks both at Dennis Dillon and Dave Smith in Idaho. 2017 1500 Limited, window sticker of around $57k and the guaranteed price is around $45k. There's no way I could get down that further though right?!

If you can wait for the model year closeouts you may get into the $45,000 range

Try going to another dealer, tell them you do not have a trade, haggle the price of the new truck to where you want it, then tell them you have decided to trade and tell them you have an offer on your trade for x amount. This his how I always start car negotiations. I drive a different car, or tell em I don't have a car. Get the price where I want it and then introduce the trade. i had the deal fall apart more than once, but then you know they were going to pull a fast one and the deal wasn't a deal after all....
