The local Ram has like 3 or 4 8 speeds and like 40 6 speeds. I am missing something, I thought ram was done with the 6 speed. Am out of the loop or what?

They still put the 6 speeds in the lower end models. If I had it to do over again I would get the 8 speed, maybe that's why there is only couple 8 speed everyone is buying them.

Yep I bought my 2013 big horn and it had a 6-speed still
Now they only come in 8-speeds
I think most express models and some slt models still get them

That could just be the configuration the dealer believes in and what they order. Each dealer configures the vehicles they receive and they will order what is trending for them. Look around, I know my local dealers have plenty of 8 speeds.

What year are the 6 speeds. 8 speed is the newer technology and there seems to be more demand for the 8 speed. I looked on 2 local dealers websites and I can believe how many 2014 ram 1500 they have left on their lots (75 mostly 8 speeds). I wonder if their website is updated? Last year at this time they were all sold out.

i believe you can only get 3.55 with the 6 speed so that could be why

I test drove a 2014 Tradesman 4X4 HEMI 8-speed when I was buying mine. Must have been ordered that way because my 2014 Tradesman has a 6-speed.

Most of the expresses around here are 6 spd. Some are 8 spd. And also you can get the 6 spd with 3.55 or 3.92 but standard is 3.55

Like others stated.....most express and below have 6sp. The 8sp is seldom around the n fla and s ga area where I live in those models.
All 14s here bighorn and uplevel models in the hemi or v6 have 8sp.

Now last year in 13s I looked at, the 6sp was king. Even sport and laramie with cool console shifter.

Love my 6 and 355 gears - wouldn't trade it for an 8 - I like having less shift points and quicker response in auto mode without having to manually shift

I agree, just wish I had the 3.92 ratio instead. But the 3.55 is a great compromise for towing and fuel economy.

X3 - 6 speed with 3:55 is fine for me. Dealer gave me a rental truck when mine was in for service that had the 8 speed. It was different, but not necessarily better to me. It didn't make me regret the 6 speed at all.

Just a note though, it did take several thousand miles for the truck to either break-in or learn my driving before it became really smooth to me. Maybe it was just me getting used to the truck though.

Well my 6 speed with the 3.55 is what I want to chnage. I hate the bogging shift points.
