interesting. I believe it did have an Auto setting. I will not really need the 4wd often, as I live in FL with 0 chance of snow and only plan to occasionally go off-road (which would be beach sand 90%, maybe in the mud once or twice a year). That would be disappointing to know that 4wd lock would not turn it into full time 4wd.Does the truck you're looking at have the auto setting on the 4wd buttons? If it does, I would definitely not buy that truck. The BW 44-44 transfer case used in these trucks is an "on demand" awd system. It doesn't actually engage the front axle until the rear tires slip, even in the 4wd Lock and 4wd Low settings. This system relies on the speed sensors at each wheel, to be fully functional, if there are any errors in the system at all, the 4wd wont engage. If you are the type of user that needs your 4wd to work reliably in all conditions, this is not truck for you.
If the truck doesn't have the 4wd auto button, the truck has the BW 44-45 transfer case, which is a traditional t-case, that actually locks up when 4wd is selected.
I ordered my 2014 truck exactly the way I wanted, and at the time I thought it was the best truck for me out of all the other options. Due to the deceptive practice of mislabeling the 4wd buttons, I was unaware I was buying a truck without a real 4wd system. For this single reason (there are other reasons as well ) I would have never had bought my truck, and regret my decision.
