Has anyone heard of someone using front adjustable coilovers to lower a RAM 1500? Similar to

The mounts are the same as a ram, single stud top mount, trunion bottom. Spings you can get 800-1000#/inch so I'm sure they can take the weight. I just haven't been able to find anyone ever talking about doing it to a ram, so I didnt know if there is some reason it can't work.

Hmm, this would be interesting to know. I'll call my KW contact and ask. They did a Full coilover setup on our 2015 GMC 5.3L Direct Injected shop truck. Thing handles like its on rails.

I went ahead and shared them on here just to make it easier. Looks pretty damn promising honestly. If the lengths are pretty close I'm sure it would work pretty well!

Those look like they are just the ride tech shockwaves, without the bags. Simply add a coilover perch and coilspring...

Looks very promising. After doing some research (im not 100% accurate) but if you are running the QA1 TS514 in the front the compressed height is at 9.63" and extended height is at 13.38". The only thing close to this is Coil-Overs :: Coilover Shock - 3.6" Stroke - HQ Series - RideTech.com - Suspension Specialist - Online Store now we would have to get some one to try to find out what spring rate we would need and choose it from here Coil-Overs :: Coilover Coil Spring - 2.5" ID / 8" free length - RideTech.com - Suspension Specialist - Online Store add the correct T-Bar install and report back to us. Can anyone correct me if im wrong the way im doing the math here.

Well, since Ridetech makes the shock assemblies in the picture the OP shows, and they also make the bolt in front Shockwave Airbag coilovers for our trucks, I am about 100% positive, that if someone was to call them, they would already have the data to build these for you.

I didn't call, but I did send them an email with this very question........never heard back. But I completely agree........they probably have this figured out.....and from what I read......those ridetech/fox shocks are stellar performers. someone call already! :favorites13:

Considering their front shockwaves are $900 a set. I bet that's pretty much the same cost as doing a full coilover.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with Ridetech, they recommend doing the shockwave system. Yes you would need a air management system as well, but then all your settings are adjustable on the fly.

They can build a set of coilovers, but height adjustment would be limited on the coilover to around 0.50 to 0.75"
They prefer that the end user provide all the data on their coilover page, to guarantee you get exactly what your looking for.

End users use the shockwaves in autocross and drag racing quite often with great results.

While adjustment is a nice thing about coilovers, I don't think thats why most guys here want them. They want them for the performance. With these coilovers you can put whatever spring rate you want.

Did they tell you a price? Can they even do a set for our trucks? This is a VERY promising thing for the 2wd guys.

Yes I have thought about it and looked into a set of Coilovers like that from a 63 biscayne, but never got any feed back from them but the weights should be pretty similar to the Rams front end.

What are those spring rates? 700lbs or something like that?

Nope, they didn't provide a price. They said the shock assembly would be exactly the same as the shockwave Air Strut assembly, and the performance would be the same as a coilover. The added benefit is at ride pressure, its equivalent to a 2" drop up front, and has 5 inches of adjustable height. You want more spring rate, you add more air.

They have multiple customers doing performance driving with the shockwave system..

in order for them to do a proper coilover, you would need to provide all the details found here:

The problem with this is that more air increases the spring rate, yes, but that higher spring rate raises the vehicle.

This is the exact opposite of what you want. The less suspension travel you have (lower ride height) the higher spring rate you want.

What this means is that air suspensions have a "sweet spot" and everything else is a compromise on performance.

Air suspension is great for a variable load, like with towing or a **** ton of aero, but using the air pressure to adjust spring rate results in less than optimum performance.

If the air suspension had a mechanical adjustment that could be "locked in" like an adjustable coilover, that would be perfect, and the best of both worlds. You could adjust the spring rate with the air, then adjust the mechanical part of it to get your ride height correct.

You mean like an adjustable perch for the air spring???
Yeah, they got that.

Plenty of hot rods at track events and auto crosses running their stuff.
Air ride has gone a really long way.

Didn't know these existed, this may change my thoughts on a custom coil over setup.
