Good morning, day, whatever.

New to the Forum though I have read some before looking for advice.
Looking to buy a plain jane Ram.
1500 crew cab 4X4
5.7 Hemi
Limited slip axle
Vinyl floors and seats.
I have a 8 and 9 year old boys and 2 each 4 year old yellow labs. Pretty spunky crew and I like stuff tough and easy to clean.

So anything else any of you really, really think I should get? For reference I am driving a 2004 ex-Forest service F150. I call it Gumby. It is a good truck but just isn't big enough with it being a extended cab.

Thanks for any advice or opinions. Look forward to jawing with you all.

:favorites13:

I should add that I tow a 19ft aluminum fishing boat to Lake Michigan and other lakes in Wisconsin. So I do have towing needs.

Get the 8 spd trans and 3.92 gears. That combination makes for a nice driving package and those gear will be a lot of help when towing.

Actually looking at two different trucks, both identical except for one has the 3.92 and the other 3.22.
I was wondering about that. The boat isn't super heavy but it's no lightweight either. Nothing like some of you all towing 7000lbs or more.
My guess the boat doesn't weigh more than 4000lbs. I should get it weighted.

thanks!

Go with the 3.92. I went from those gears to the 3.21 in my 2014 and noticed it when towing from MD to FL. It just takes more go pedal and longer to get up to speed.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome from Tennessee!

I say .392 gear ratio as well , the 8 speed has proven to be the xsmn of choice , so I'd go for that as well .
Get the towing package , it has a heavy duty xsmn cooler and welded hitch among other things ... tow mirrors are nice to have as well .
The factory backup camera in the radio is fantastic for hooking up a boat by yourself !

Dodge / Ram these days calls the limited slip an Anti-spin Differential .

Hope this helps !

Thanks for the help everyone.

Doesn't the tradesman package essentially include the towing package?
Maybe not the mirrors but it looks like heavy duty engine and trans cooling?
Pretty new to RAM, so still learning.
Having a hard time finding exactly what I want without a lot of other stuff.
This will be the 3rd vehicle in our family so it won't be a daily driver. It will get driven all weekend.

Welcome, I say be sure to get the 3.92 as well regardless of what you are towing now. You never know what your next boat will weigh.

From looking I am not going to say the 3.92 is rare but it sure seems like the majority of stuff on lots is 3.21
