Hello all,

I do not yet have a ram, but I am looking for one. I'd like to get an 04.5 or 05 ram 2500/3500 cummins 4x4 quad cab with 8 ft bed.

It will be used to replace my daily driver: a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T

I will need to tow a 32' 5th wheel on occasion (aprox. 8800lbs dry)
Otherwise it would be used as a typical light duty truck.

Is a 2500/3500 overkill? Would a 1500 handle a 5th wheel of that size with rear suspension mods?

Welcome to the forum from LA (Lower Alabama) I think your right about the 2500/3500 for pulling that much weight.

Welcome, where in NJ? 2500/3500 is what you want for that much weight, not only in the carrying capacity, but brakes as well.
