Take a look at the Guide to Leveling & Wheel and Tire Sizing linked in my signature. I explain how offset works in there and there's a few pictures that may help you.

But yes, essentially you have it correct. The stock 20x9's are +19 offset so a 9" wide wheel with a 0 offset will stick out 19mm more than the stock setup. 19mm = 3/4". The conversion is 1=25.4mm

Thanks for all the help guys, I think the end result will be icon coilovers set at 2.5 with a 315/70r17 trail grappler so it measures 34.6 and I'll be just under 35 and a 0 to -12 offset depending on how far the bushwacker extend a flares come out.... will also be adding the add stealth front bumper, stay tuned

busherwacker flares extend out far...for that reason i would go with the -12mm 17x9 wheels

check out the picture on post 15 in the link below. He has bushwackers and 20x10 -12 mm spacing which stick out 1/2" further than 17x9 with -12 mm offset and they still look tucked

Quietpeen bushwacker pocket flares extend about 2.6" but the bushwacker extend-a-flares only stick out 1.7"
