We recently bought a 2015 Ram 1500 4x4 with the Laramie longhorn package. We got a great deal on the truck, the only downside is the axles are the 3.21s. We want to lift the truck and put 35s on this. Is anyone on here running this with the 3.21s? I know it's not ideal

3:21 is spectacular until 35's.. You will lose about 2-3 mpg and 8th gear for me is nonexistent unless going down a slight downgrade. I would say it's like you're in tow mode. But it's still quick in acceleration (nothing feels lost there). Either way, the cost of new gears vs. cost of loss gas mileage doesn't equal up. I'm getting used to it.

I would say the exact opposite.

3.21s suck even stock, compared to the 3.92 trucks. It cant hold a gear, ever.

If you go with one of the lighter, less aggressive tires it wont be quite as bad but its going to be noticeable. Especially on the highway.

If you dont take a lot of highway trips, and you dont drive on the hwy alot, and you dont have a lot of hills near you it will probably be ok. Otherwise...

I'm having the same experience with my 6 inch lift with 35's and 3.21 gears. If it's a relatively flat highway it will cruise in 8th pretty well, but on slower or highways where there are alot of hills i just shift it to 7th to keep it from constantly going 7-8-7-8-7-8-7-8-7. I can still spin the tires on command though.

I love how people always say it can spin the tires. As if that means anything for drive ability. If you are driving any truck that cant spin the tires, you should kill yourself.

I was more trying get across that the 35's didn't kill the low end power the truck has and make it a dog. There are plenty of posts that insinuate that 35's and 3.21 are terrible......like yours. I guess only your opinion matters. I disagree and I have driven my truck this was several thousand miles. If i could do it from the start again, yes I would have gotten a truck with 3.92's, but at this point I am happy with what I have, and I don't feel it's worth the cost or the aggravation of doing a gear swap.

I think it depends on where you live. Here in the flat featureless land of boringness, 3.21 gears work fine. My truck has no problem with reaching and staying in 8th gear, while cruising down the Interstate at 70 - 75 MPH.

Keep in mind that with the 8-speed, 7th and 8th are both overdrive gears.

Yea I would average 23mpg on the highway at 75-80mph and it's very hilly out here. It says I now get about 18-20mpg with 35's. This, I've been told, is not completely accurate because the computer is under the impression of 33's. Was told that I may actually be getting better than it reads. I'm still happy either way, I wouldn't go back to stock.

I achieved this number by resetting my fuel usage display once I'm on the interstate, then 15 miles later I go off of the "average". I don't know if that's the best way or not... I dont have anything but a level at this point, sure that plays a factor.

clearly they are high on ****, and that just further validates my point. 3.21s are great with 35s! says the guy who gets the worlds best mpg in a hemi ram. Hell his mpg with 35s (uncorrected, mind you) is the same or better than anyone else's stock truck.

no this a terrible way to calculate mpg. So this is absolute best case scenario mpg, which is bound to never happen. And im sure you are driving as lightly as possible, staring at the dash to get the number as high as possible.

Just reset the mpg on monday, do your normal deal all week, check it on friday.

? I am strictly talking about interstate travel. I don't only drive on an interstate all week. All I'm doing is giving information that I see and actual experience. For some reason I thought that was the point, since the op asked!? To be clear, prior to 35's, my average fuel consumption displayed on the dash (without hitting reset, because I could give a **** less about driving to conserve) was 15.8mpg. After 35's it is 13.8mpg. I was also told my speedo is way off... It's off by exactly 2 mph.

The OP said nothing about highway mileage. In fact no one did. You and the other **** addict just went off on a tangent about how it works great on the highway.

By the way, thats one hell of a difference in mpg. You are that guy that says his cummins or dmax gets 26mpg on the hwy doing the same bs.

Just curious silversurfer.. Do you have a hemi? Do you have 3:21 gears? Did you go from stock to 35's? Next question is obviously why are you even commenting in this thread? Or this forum period... Are you crying out for attention by attacking everyone who doesn't agree with your opinions? Kinda reminds me of my x wife man. All you do is jump in threads and say something stupid, nobody cares man. I will video tape my fuel display to prove how ignorant you are and that you're not really contributing anything to this forum but bs opinions. So how much is it worth to you to be right? $100 min bet on my end.

2015 hemi 3.21s... stock...

Heres the thing chief, ive had REAL lifted trucks. 9 of them. 35s, 37s, 40s, etc. I have a lot of experience, im just trying to assist the OP, and the world, and provide REAL input.

you wont go on any forum and see someone say that 3.21s are good for 35s, nor that someone with 35s is getting 20+ mpg.

without even looking, right on the home page

a dude with 3.92s and 35s wanting more power and mpg... say it isnt so

First: I said I get 18-20mpg with 35's only on the interstate. I said I average 13.8mpg for weeks of driving.

Secondly I said 3:21s are good with 33's. As a daily driver, not towing, I still believe they are. With 35's not to great. Do I wish I had 3:92, 4:56? Yes! But it's not worth the cost and I'm fine with it as is.

Seems like misreading information and saying we're on **** lead us to this point.

Edit: I would also like to mention I owned a 2011 hemi laramie 5 spd, 2012 hemi st 6 spd, and now a 2015 hemi bighorn 8spd. And all throughout the years my gas mileage and acceleration has improved dramatically. And just out of curiosity silver...what is your displayed average mpg?

see you say 33s, but what you really mean are stock tires. Its not the same. No one was talking about 33s or stock tires. Just 35s.

Im done engaging you.
