Do you need to replace the Upper Control Arms when using the 5100`s instead of spacers because of the factory ball joint pop out situation that occurs on Ram 1500 trucks.

If installed correctly, no Bilstein 5100's shouldn't require replacement of the UCA as the prevent the suspension from overextending which is where the ball joint pops out. As long as the Bilstein is assembled correctly and installed properly there shouldn't be a problem. I recommend unbolting the steering knuckle from the upper ball joint for install to avoid overextending it during install when you put the strut assembly back in the truck.

Thanks, I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 completely stock. I want to put Nitto Exo Grappler AWT 35x12.50R18LT on Black Rhino Mojave Wheel 18x9 Bolt Pattern:5x5.5 (5x139.7) 00mm offset on the truck. The tires spec out at Diameter 34.76 Width 12.52 on a 10" rim. The aloud rim sizes are 8.5-(10.0)-11.0. I plan on using Bilstein 5100`s on all 4 corners with the fronts set at the max (2.8) to level and make room for the tire. I`m not a off road guy, if this truck see`s a mud puddle I would be amazed. I just like big tires and want it to look good. Do you think this set-up will work OK? Thanks for your time and the info, really helps a novice like me.

Yup that setup should work no problem. I don't expect you to have any issues fitment wise; they shouldn't rub at all. That will definitely be a nice looking setup.

Looking for a cheaper 2.5" coilover kit for the front to run with some icon 1.5" lifted springs in the rear. Icon kit is a little above budget. 2017 ram 1500 express qc. Going to run Toyo at 35x12.5 on 18x9 with 4.5" backspace. Should this setup work?

Fox 2.0 coilovers are another, cheaper option to look at.

As far as the wheel/tire setup goes, there's no issues with that setup at all.

Aren't the fox only 2"? If I do that is a 1/2" spacer ok to put with the coilover?

They state 2" but you can crank them up a little higher than that. To gain 2" of lift height will only require around 1/4"-3/8" more preload on the spring because of how the geometry works.

There aren't really any other coilover systems out there that will meet your budget.

I agree 100% W/ Brandonjanson , but why not just do Bilstien's @ +2.8" ?

Offroading or not they are a great setup.

I offroad on a very regular basis .

IMO , the bils are a $cheep$ & simple install ( DIY ) that will settle a bit with time to about 2.6ish " ( as mine has ) which is pretty much the 2.5" you require .

Fwiw , I've had the bils installed @ + 2.8" for over 25k and the ride is still better than stock imo and I've had Zero issues .

Just a thought Sir .

Hope this helps you !

I may end up with bilstein. Wasn't even thinking about those.

They are a great shock for lifting the front end imo . When mine wear out I'll likely go back with the bilsteins 5100s .

Fwiw , here's my post when I installed the Bilstien 5100s @ + 2.8 " .
It gives a few pointers on things ( DIYers) and professional shops sometimes overlook .

The UCA replacement isn't required for the bils install .

Hope this helps !

I like the Bilsteins 5100s a lot, theyre decently smooth on and off road, give the truck a much better stance, are pretty inexpensive, and have yet to cause any problems after 10k miles set @2.8. My only complaint, which is completely my fault and not the bilsteins, but due to lack of funds and desire for big tires, when off road my 35s will hit bumpstop on somewhat mild terrain. Im hoping a 6" lift will be installed in the near future

Bilstein 6112 for the rams. I may look into those as well since they come with springs

I have been doing a lot of research and I believe that the setup I want will work but I'm looking for some reassurance. I have a 2015 Express 1500 4x4, was going to use a moto fab leveling spacer kit 3" front 2" rear. 17x9 -12mm 4.5bs wheels with 35x12.50 grabber at2 tires. Will I have any rubbing or fitment issues? Also are there any long term side effects with this setup? I rarely go off pavement. Thanks in advance for any impute and advice!
