So I contacted the local shop about installing a 3" body on the truck. I know from looking online that you can get the lift for around $375. They quoted me $972.32 for the kit installed. Seems pretty expensive to me. I have installed body lifts before on a couple early model vehichles. So i know its not that difficult, but i now live in town and dont have the tools to do it. The instruction also say you need a welder which i dont have. So im wondering if anyone else has been quoted on a 3" bl install and if so how much?

That extremely steep!!!! I would rent or borrow the tools to do it. All it takes is hand tools, a jack, and some wood. The welding you can just pop into a shop and get them to tack weld the blocks that need it. Look in the DIY section there is a write up on it.

It aint easy.... bein' Easy ;)

That's crazy high. Should take a shop no more than 5 hours to do it, realistically more like 3-4 (I'd allow all day though if I was you). I'd definitely buy/rent the tools and do it yourself. If I remember correctly, the back end is the part that needs welding. I'm sure you could get an exhaust shop to do that for you for cheap.

I think the first price included the gap guards which i dont need since i have the mopar wheel well liners. Called the other shop in town and it was $850 without the gap guards. So I believe ill just use that other 500 they wanna charge and buy the tools, beer, and bbq. Then invite a few people over

I called a place local here - they quoted me 900 just for LABOR on the 1.25 body lift. I told her to KMBFHWA (kiss my big fat hairy white ass)

it depends on where you live. Back when I did the research on BLs, I found out that the "normal" range is $300-800+. I think I paid $350-400 for the install when I supplied the BL. That was in western ND.

edit:that was for my 98 1500.

Down here you can pretty much be guaranteed of a $85-$125 an hour labor rate...so if it's a 5 hour job (most shops are gonna say it's 5 hours even though it's only like 3.5-4) then $500 isn't that extreme.

Is there really that much more work involved on a 3" compared to a 1.25? They quoted me $387 for the 1.25". I just assumed it would be about the same amount of work

the 3" may have a steering extension, fuel line extensions? I'm not sure. I know the 1.25 didn't need any of that.

3" body lift in my shop is $950 if you get the kit threw me its $850

You dont understand how labor intense it is . Once you do it yourself you will pay next time .

Other shops in the big city charge 1k or more .
