LSD vs Traction Control

I had a 2004 ram with the LSD and i think either 3.92 or 4.10, now my 2013 has 3.55 and traction control, whats the difference and whats better?

Hi PCT,

LSD and Traction control are not the same thing. Limited slip is a mechanical system that engages the opposite wheel when the primary drive wheel starts to spin while traction control is a function of the pcm that applies brakes and limits engine power to prevent or reduce wheel spin. I have LSD on my 13 and it is a good option on these trucks.

I think the LSD is not something u just add that simply. They will probably have to replace the whole axle, but I could be totally wrong.

You would need to call your local shop to find out the cost of the install but it can be easily added. It can be added though if you don't have it, no problem.

Matt has them for $499.00 at Moes performance. I would think it could be done for under $1000.00 otd easy.

I think it can be added with out a new axle, the differential prolly gets switched out, but i also could be wrong. I called chrysler, and if i have a IRF(Independent repair facility) it would void my powertrain warranty, so the change has to be done Chrysler.

In the winter i go to my cabin up at donner summit, very deep snow, we usually have to use the roof door to get inside. Anywho how would traction control work in deep snow and maybe some slosh dirt.

There is no axle that needs to be changed. Just the differential carrier. You say you called Chrysler. Was this Chrysler customer car, or a Chrysler dealer? There is no reason a differential repair should void the entire power train warranty. Just any repairs related to the differential.

As far as traction control helping in deep snow, not really. All it does is try and prevent tire spin. A limited slip will help deliver power to both rear wheels instead of just one.

They can be used at the same time. They are pretty much two totally different things. I just added a limited slip to mine.
