I wanted to carry an axe and shovel, but there aren't really any great mounting points so I made some.

Quickfist clamps are mounted through the wheel well wall with #10 screws, a big washer and nylock nuts.

I had to drop the wheel well liners to bolt it together.

The axe is an Estwing campers axe, and the shovel is a Kobalt from Lowes.
I had to use a little piece of pipe insulation on the axe to fill up the neck area for clamping as the Estwing is a forged one piece design. Easy solution for 97¢.

Yes - these were very awesome! I've had a number of occasions to carry a broom/shovel and this is a great solution.

HAHAHA! That would be handy. lol

I've been told it's actually the law here to carry one of each while offroad. Even if that's BS it's been more than once when I wouldn't go further up a trail because of a branch sticking out that would scratch my baby up, no worries now.

And the shovel can be helpful in mud or snow, I bet I use it at least once this winter to help out some poor sucker in a kia.

Looks cool and useful, but are you concerned about the screw holes being a starting point for rust?

Great install. Looks very clean, and I'm sure you will be putting both to good use soon.

If I didn't build the drawer system in the back of my truck I would definitely do this. Very nice install!

Of course, no copyright here lol, I posted it so you all could see how I did it. This is the best site for info on modding your ram on the web. I've copied those who came before me on lots of stuff too.

Looks cool and useful, but are you concerned about the screw holes being a starting point for rust?

I have a folding tonno-pro cover on the bed, so it's essentially never wet inside the bed, and the liners in the wheel wells cover the underside along with the washer.

I also put a glob of silicone around the base of the screws on the bed side as I slipped them through the holes for good measure.

Pretty confident that rust won't be a concern, but you never know, I am punching through so buyer beware I guess. Having the cover makes a big difference I think.

Without a cover, I would probably use some sort of cable lock to secure them to the truck as well, otherwise they would disappear or be used to beat up the truck or god knows what.

Might do that anyway, just to deter the scumbags, probably wouldn't stop anyone that really wanted them off, but make it a little harder and they might leave it alone.

I really liked the idea to but would be worried about theft etc
Even a simple bicycle cable lock would deter most

You could probably mount them on the wall of the bed behind the cab to reduce the risk of ripping them off while setting cargo in the bed and lifting it out too.

Good idea, it is no fun to have those types of tools just floating around in your box lol
