Hi All. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on installing oem mudguards with oem running boards. The mudguards on the front don't fit properly as they hit the running boards, this creates a gap along the side of the fender. Since both are oem I didn't think I'd have a problem. Is it possible to mount the running boards further towards the rear of the vehicle? Thanks

I'm not sure which running boards you have, but one member that had the ones that just go to the back of the rear door, switched sides and mount the right on the left and vice-versa and it solved the mudflap interference issue. This probably won't work if you have the ones that go all the way back to the front of the rear wheel well.

My running boards just cover the full length of the cab, I'm assuming I'd have to drill new holes if I swapped sides with the running boards? I thought of trying to soften the guards with a heat gun but can also see myself melting a hole in them too. lol

I don't think he drilled any new holes. Do a search, it's on here somewhere...

I was worried about this too. If you look at the OEM flaps online, they say they aren't compatible with the side steps, as ridiculous as that may be.

I purchased from Weathertech, and they claim it shouldn't be an issue, but I'm skeptical about it. I saved the email exchange with customer service so that I can return them for a full refund if they don't fit.

When I eventually get my truck I'll let you know if the weathertech flaps fit.

Wow, doesn't look like those flaps fit at all with the truck, but I'm sure when you've got some odd pressure on them they bow out funny.

From what I've seen, the weather tech flaps don't come as far back from the wheel well.
Likely eliminating the issue you're having.

Hello Guys,

I have weather tech mud flaps on my truck. I also had OEM step/nerf bars with OEM fender flares on my 12 2500.

I have had mud flaps on my last 4 trucks of different brands.

I like the look of the weather techs, they use the same factory screw holes.

Here is a pic of my 2500.

Nerf bars removed and Amp power steps installed, the chrome strip you see below the rocker is the step.

I had a similar issue with Nerf bars I bought off ebay, I also have the Weather Tech mud flaps, The nerf bars when installed by the instructions would have contacted the front mud flaps. (The Nerf bars were marked for 2009-2012 Ram 1500 Crew Cab and 2010-2012 2500. crew cab, I have a 2013 1500 Crew cab, I dont believe there are any differences) I ended up getting another set of bars from another vendor and they fit fine.

Long story longer, Are you sure you have the correct Bars?

And you should not have to drill any holes, One type will use the 2 body to frame mount points and the other uses 3 pre-drilled points that are along the inside of the frame. depends on which type you have.

I had same issue the running boards hit my husky flaps. I flipped them from one side to the other.

I am running stock OEM running boards and Husky brand mud flaps with no issue. The frame, mounting locations, and side steps are different on the 13's, per my dealer, I had to wait a week to get the correct running boards because they did not have them in stock when I purchased the truck. Weather Tech mud flaps are nicer than the Husky brand IMO, and would fit with factory OEM running boards.

I would believe they were different, however, there are some that say they fit both '12 and '13. thats why When I had issues with the first set I bought, I thought they were mis-labled. The second set I bought said they fit '12 and '13 and they fit fine. so something is the same.

I did flip my side steps from drivers to passenger side, this moved the steps back about 4". I have not purchased any mud flaps yet as I am still trying to decide if the truck looks aesthetically correct with them swapped. The other possibility is to elongate the slot from front to back to slightly move the side steps towards the rear.

So I swapped the drivers side running board for the passengers side and it worked perfect. It slid the running board back about 4" so now the mud guards fit a lot better

I'm just going by what the dealer said.. I was told OEM boards on the 13's were different?

Those actually look like different mudguards because you have the wheel well flares.

Those side steps look like what they where putting on the 12's, look at how the slightly curl in at the front. And don't extend as far.
