I'd think it's possible and wouldn't be unsafe at all. Idk if you'd need some spacers but I'd think not with the 8" wheels.

I think that wheel may be a bit narrow for that much tire, if nothing else. The sidewalls would be ridiculously tall in my opinion.

Unsafe? For highway use, that's a lot of mass for that size wheel.
A quick look on tirerack.com shows they don't sell sets with that size combo. Here's mine with 35x12.5x20 factory wheels to give you an idea. 12a5762051b4a3df3e3e09c48364db42.jpg

I have well over 100k with a 15" wheel with 40 , 42 & 44" tall tires , the high tire sidewall is certinly not the issue , my Q is the 8" wide wheel accepting ( safely ) with a tire that's 12.5" wide ...

Yes they will be fine, shoot I ran 35×12.50×15 on 7" rims with zero problem. I also ran 35×12.50×17 on my stock 07 Cummins rims witch were 8".

Just watch your air pressure so they wear even.

Also the side wall will be the right height, after all these trucks are not lowriders..lol

I'm on tapatalk so I can't see your truck info, but if I remember correctly you're running a 1/2 ton, correct? Personally I wouldn't run that size on that truck without a lift and a good offset. But, that doesn't mean it's not possible or unsafe.

RLK, your an Arkansas boy. Idk how old you are but when I was in high school back in the 90s every body and their dog was running 315/75R16s on tbar cranked Z71s. Those were factory 16x7s. A 12.5" tire will fit fine on an 8" rim, no matter the wheel diameter.

There are thousands of people running 35s on 1500s with just a leveling kit, perfectly fine with the right offset wheels, and by right offset I mean keeping the tires under the truck not beside it...lol

Ha ha , RAZORBACKS RULE MY BROTHER !
I'm 45 and I was in high school in the early 90s as well ( Pine Bluff area ) Whitehall , Arkansas .

We were lifting trucks , dominantly 40" -44" SUPER SWAMPERS 16 - 18 " wide on 15" X 10 " wheels .

Mud riding was a daily / weekly event other than that it was chasing skirts , playing football and working on farms for $$

You can, but will need some spacers. I cannot remember the size spacer you need but Quietpeen knows this stuff off the top of his head. I went with 17x9 with a 0 offset for 295/70r17's. Should be here this week and I'll snap some pics for you.

The factory wheel is a 17x7 with a +25mm offset. To run 35's you would need a -12mm offset at least. It can be done with some wheel spacers, 1.5" wheel spacers should work to clear the tires.

That's what I thought .Thank you sir !
I want 17" wheels badly , just want to get rid of my factory 20" GIANT wheels as I hate the look .
I'm a big rubber guy not a big wheel guy .

I have a buddy here ( M2MODS / MPGRIMM2 ) with a fantastic deal on his factory 17s .... I've ran 1.5 to 2" spacers many times and for probably over 100k with no issues ( proper maint )
I just need to get me some 17 X 10 wheels with -12 mm offset. ..

Thanks all for your response!

Ahh... Good to know.

So to your question... as I'm sure you're painfully aware, "unsafe" is a very highly contested term. Especially given our chosen profession. What one guy has done every day for 20 years without one safety-related issue may be considered "unsafe" by the rest of the world, if not just big brother.
I've run a lot of trucks and many different combos, but never that particular one. I don't see why that would be any less safe than any other combo that's just shy of conventional.
