I debated a while on getting HIDs. The stock projectors are not that bad. I made things worse by adding tint to my windows, but it was still bearable. After driving my wife's Durango, I decided I needed to up my RAM's game. It came down to Enlight and Retro Shop. Since Retro Shop seems to be a popular with both forums I gave them a try, even though I really liked the mounting and components used in the Enlight kit.
The Retro Shop kit showed up very quickly. The wiring and components seem pretty solid. The retro shop must have listened to the reviews because there were a number of extension harnesses, that did help. I was a bit disappointed there were no instructions in the box, I figured it out. I also was a bit disappointed in the lack of bracketry and mounting.
Once I got both headlights out I determined the realestate I had to work with and made these mounting brackets for each side.
Hear is a picture of the headlight buckets with everything mounted. The Resistors hang down on the aluminum bracket screw to the Frame. Also you can see the nuts screwed into the plastic tray. The Ballasts are hanging from those.
Next was the relay harness. I made the mounting hole bigger and used an existing bolt behind the headlight to mount them.
I ran the power leads up under the fuse block and coiled them up. Then ran the ground to the existing bolt on the fender, and the Power to the 120Amp fuse off the battery.
To run the passenger side ballast connection, I ran it under the fan shroud under the truck. I carefully pulled the push pins and routed behind them. I also drill a hole in the ends of the bottom shroud and zip tied the harness to keep it secure.
The head light install was straight forward. I drilled the hole for the grommet off to the side as the was more room for the harness to come through.
Once done I thought pattern turned out very well. I put the truck back to the spot I had marked on the driveway and the lights lined up with the marks I had made with the stock bulbs. No adjustment needed, and if anything the light was more evenly dispersed.
The lights seem to be a bit stronger, I need to go out for a longer drive.
Over all not a bad install, but it took a bit longer than I had planned.
