Hey guys,
First and foremost, I apologize if this topic has already been addressed elsewhere but here it goes;

In about a week, I will be lifting my 2017 Ram 1500.
4in Rough Country suspension lift (not 6in for parking/garage reasons)

I'm going to also put on some new tires, Nitto terra g2s. Either 33 or 35.

I'm going to stick with my stock wheels (20in) for a while because I actually don't mind them at all.

My question is whether I should go with the 33in or 35in tires.
I like the look of the 35's better and I know they will be a little better for offload but I've heard that 35's cause a bit more wear and tear on your truck among other things. I've also read that I may need to re-gear my truck if I put on 35s? I currently have the 3.91 gear ratio. Is this good for 35s? Or will I need to re gear. Also, will it really hit my MPG as much as people make it seem?

I would love to hear about your pros and cons and preferences when it comes to 33 vs 35 in tires. Thanks!

Just my opinion, but I think the 33s would look a tad small on the 4 inch lift. I have 34s with a level at 2.1 and 1 inch TGC spacer in the back and probably wouldn't want to go smaller tire size. I did notice about 1mpg drop but also installed a 18in maggy.... so could be a lead foot

Your stock tires are 33", no need to spend money on a lift kit for that size.

If you have 3.92's those gears are perfect for 35's, a lot here run 37's with that size.

If your going to use the stock wheels, try to get a tire that's not 12.50" wide, they will rub on your control arms. You could use a 35x11.50 or best might be a 295/65R20. That size would look real nice with your 4" lift

35 all the way. I just did a level and the stock size looked too small. And I have the 3.92 rear end. Works just fine. Speedo is off a little since I didn't get it recalibrated. But I am not worried. Here are some photos. Stock vs with my new set up. Wheels are 20x9 +1 with 35x11.5 tires.

Going up 4" would look goofy with the stock size. Look like you skipped leg day in my opinion

Really? 12.5 will rub even with a lift and what not?

Looks good! Did you do any trimming at all? I heard if you just get a level, 35s will rub

Nope none at all. I had a fender liner rub for a little. Then I realized it wasn't in place like the other side. So since I put it in the right spot, I have not had a single issue. I haven't done any real off roading either. But daily driving and what not, I have not had a single issue at all. My slight off set may help some too.

If you're going the 4" lift route, 35's all the way. The G2's might even fit the stock wheels without rubbing the spindle, just check the actual specs for the tire and be sure you account for the rim width. My 35's fit with no wheel spacer needed on my stock rims.

I just leveled and installed 35's too (on a -19 offset which is more aggressive) and I didnt have to trim one bit either. These Ram wheel wells are awesome for bigger wheels. Chevy, Ford and GMC all have to go a lot higher with a lot more work to fit similar sizes. With a 4" lift you'll clear 35's all day.

When I had my 1500 (2014 4x4 5.7 8spd & 3.21s), I went with a 4" superlift and bils set at 1.4"
I ran 295/60r20 nitto g2s on stock wheels. No rub. BUT, I always wished I'd gone 65s. The 60s are about 34"and the 65s are 35s. 295s are about and 11.5" wide so they cleared the control arms.

as for the gearing, I had 3.21s and everyone usually wishes they had the 3.92s so you should be happy with your set up. You will notice a difference in performance of course, but it should not be bad.

Gas mileage.... gotta pay to play. I was averaging 14 mpg. But your gearing might help the MDS kick in more and your mpgs migh be a little better that mine was.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I'm rolling in a 2015 2500 4x4 with 295/65r20s & 3" lift and dammit I want 37s!!! The 35s look small on the HDs

3.92's are perfect for the 35's, could even do 37's. I have 3.21's and will be doing a 4 inch with 35's and not re gearing.
