Every now and then, my air suspension on my Rebel makes a clunk in the rear whole lowering and or raising. Any ideas? No other noises or odd feelings while driving, so I'm thinking it's got to do with the bags or something close to that.

Clunk Sound in Air Ride

My 2016 does same when truck is off. Clunk sound comes from inside dash - I'm told it's the air bags settling/leveling expressing air. First time I heard it, I admit it was a bit unsettling. Maybe RAMCARES here can confirm this is the case.

I can almost feel the clunk, and it feels like it's coming from the rear. It doesn't always happen. Usually only when parked on an incline.

I've had mine for about 3 months and haven't had any clunks from the air suspension. Its working perfectly.

Maybe get it checked out at the dealer next oil change?

Does it finish its leveling out to the next spot? (Normal / Aero / Entry-Exit)? Or does it get stuck?

It levels fine, just clunks occasionally. I plan on doing my own oil changes, but maybe I'll bring it in if it persists.

If you can replicate it without moving the truck just adjusting the height its something binding. It might be something like a sway bar link or any of the 4 link parts over tightened. If its consistent at a certain part of the travel you can get a 2nd set of eyes as its doing it, you will likely see it shift as it breaks free.

Of course if the truck is under warranty, let them deal with it.

Hi usaf2006,

If you end up deciding to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed. Just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know!

Hi RAMHON,

I have a little more information for you. Since this happens more during hot days it is possible you could be hearing a dash component moving due to expanding heat but it wouldn't be an airbag. If you are able to duplicate it during your next service appointment we would recommend bringing it up for further diagnosis.

Hmm that is strange. I've never experienced any problems or oddities with my 2013's air suspension over 4 years and 70k miles, which has honestly surprised me considering that was the first year for it... *knock on wood*

Happened again today - turned off truck and within a minute the clunk sound happened in dash area just behind radio/nav screen. I'm thinking you are correct that it's a dash component in my case and not air suspension related like the dealer lead me to believe. Anyway, I'm not really concerned about it, as it seems like it might be related to a vent of some sort closing.

I have a 2017 Limited that started doing the same thing. It seems like it started after the dealer had to jack it up to do a road force balancing process.
It has continued over the past five months since then.
It doesn't do it all the time but is pretty frequent?

I have an occasional clunk from the rear while raising/lowering in "Drive" position on my 2014 1500 with air suspension. It sounds just like what the original poster was describing.
